Ok, standard stuff. I make nothing off this, moonlight belongs to CBS, I am a fan, and I miss not even having reruns, I had to do something to keep from having withdrawls...Please read and review.
Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of the cooler. It had been a bad case from the beginning and even as I met with my client it was hard for me to separate the days and nights spent on this case. Mr. Tillman had come to me looking for his daughter. That had been four days ago. He had been worried about her. She was a bit of a wild child and had been doing her own thing. She was just eighteen but had been away from home since she was fifteen. That was when her mother had died.
"Mr. Saint John its not that I don't care, but she became like a stranger to me." Tillman sat in the chair across from my desk. He was worried, tired and scared. "She at least was calling me for money every few days, or I know she's been to the house because the refrigerator has been raided." He drew a deep breath and let it out in a sigh. "But I haven't heard from her in three weeks now…" He ran his hands over his face, then through his thinning hair. "I don't know what else to do."
That had been four days ago and now he was entering my office and I was going to have to tell him his daughter was a Vampire. She had been turned three weeks ago by her boyfriend, he had waited until she was of legal age. They were living the night life together.
He looked expectantly at me. "You said you found her?" There was a hopeful smile on his face. His large brown eyes focused in on me.
"Mr. Tillman, why don't you take a seat?" I pointed to the chair in front of the desk, where four days ago he had been sitting worried out of his mind. I saw the look of hope slip from his face.
"She's dead…isn't she…you can tell me…" He dropped into the chair heavily, his head going into his hands. "Oh…I just knew it…Just knew it…"
"Well sir…" I walked around the side of the desk and stood looking at the poor man. This was never easy. "Technically, yes,she---."
"OH!!!..." He rocked back and forth in the chair, pulling at what hair he had left. His face paled. "What hospital is she at…Is she on life support… is she---."
"Mr. Tillman, your daughter is a Vampire" I watched as his head snapped up, those brown eyes, full of tears, staring at me. His fleshy mouth opened and closed, but no words came out, his face went from very pale to flushed red with anger. "I know this is a bit of a shock---."
"A vampire….A Vampire…how could she…after all the things we taught her about being careful, about being safe and she became a Vampire!" He shot to his feet.
"Well that's it…I am not supporting her any more…A Vampire…Of all the things she could have done with her life….A Vampire…" He turned and strode toward the door, almost foaming at the mouth. "Of all the things…"
I stood there, hoping he wouldn't break the glass door as he slammed it shut. I drew a short breath and shook my head. "Yep…Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of the cooler."
