Durzo Blint's words rang in Kylar's ears as if he were told just moments ago, though it had been five years since he uttered those words. Kylar found himself spinning a knife on his finger as his master used to before he became a mortal. Things were happening fast, and he needed to know what to do.

Things had settled down in the five years that High King Gyre took the throne in Elenea. Things took a turn for the worst about three years ago. When word got out that Logan's son, Rimbold, was an Ursuul, a civil war threatened to break loose, but Logan tactfully averted that disaster. No, now there was something different. Mount Tenji was inactive. The Tlaxini Maelstrom no longer existed. This all happened in one night. To top it all off, Lantano Garuwashi sent a summons directly to Kylar's home in Ossein. There could be only one reason Garuwashi would send for him.

Kylar lived just outside the Chantry, mainly so he could be as close to Vi as possible without having to live there. After last time, he didn't want to risk losing Retribution again. Knowing what it was made it that much more special.
Kylar and Vi were now forming a bond that wasn't forced by ring rape. After Elene died, Kylar was distant. He had some feelings for Vi, but he felt as if he were losing Elene every time he thought of Vi. It took him years just to even consider Vi anything other than an acquaintance. It was only in the past year that he decided he would be with her. It was tentative at first, but in time, he grew to have strong feelings for her. He turned that thought over and over in his mind.
Vi and I. Who would have thought. Is this your doing Elene?
He shook his head. Elene was on his mind often. Though Vi replaced most of those thoughts now. He was growing to love her. That's why his decision was so hard. Did he throw away the chance at a life with Vi, to be the Night Angel once more? This is the same problem he faced when he went to face Garoth Ursuul. That one act of heroism led to the events that eventually got Elene killed. Did he go through that again with Vi? Or stay and marry Vi as he planned?

Kylar felt the ka'kari smirk. He wondered how an artifact with no face could have facial features. He shook that off. He needed to make a decision soon. The person, or people, who took the ka'karis were on the move. If he were to catch them, he needed to move fast. On the other hand, if he wanted to marry Vi, he needed to do so soon. The Sisters were still not pleased that she had a relationship with him. They still consider him a threat and they were planning something. He wanted to be with her before they could say or do anything about it.
