The Fate We Weave

Prologue

A tree...

...A bird...

...A tree...

...A tree...

...A tree...

Water condensed against the glass, a small simple smiley face appearing as hot breath blew against the cold window.

...A bird...

...A field...

...A tree...

Her body shifted with the train's rough movements, her head bobbing back and forth, as her eyes scanned the outside surroundings. She shivered. Her body trying to warm itself underneath the thick cotton jacket she had worn onboard.

"Ticket?"

Her eyes focused on the mirror image the glass projected of what was behind her. A man. Worked with the train most likely, that being the only excuse he would have for his uniform. No normal person would walk around like that. The conductor, conductor Jim, or so his nametag said.

"Ma'am, your ticket?"

Their eyes met through the glass on the window; he was old. Her head slowly turned to met him, her braided blonde hair falling off her shoulder. Her voice was soft, polite, "Of course." A snap was heard as she opened the purse that laid on her lap, her long slender hand reaching into the small compartment it held on the inside and pulled out a small slip of paper.

"Thank-you." She nodded in reply, the man closing the door behind him. Her eyes moved to look out the window once again.

"Ticket?" She looked back towards the door, surprised he had forgotten so quickly. Although, he was not talking to her, he already moved onto the next room and had left a crack in between the door and lock; his voice louder then it actually was. She sighed and stood, setting her purse on the pale red cushioned seat she had recently occupied. Her head poked out, a commotion next door as some riders boarded the large train.

She paused, the door still open, the lock still off. The world around her dissapearing as her vocus was on him. He was beautiful, gorgeous, a magnificent art piece, or rather, sculpture of some sort, she figured. Subconsciously, she bit the bottom of her full pink lips, her sparkling blue eyes examining his body as he moved gracefully. Long crimson hair bounced off his shoulders as he headed into his compartment behind three other men.

He stopped.

She held her breath, a warmth consuming her face. They made eye contact, eye contact! She was panicking inside, her stomach tightening, her palms sweating. All in a simple glance.

Saddened.

He turned back around to his friends as they settled in. Seemingly going to join them, forgetting about her. She cast her gaze to the ground sighing, about to sink in with a good book the solitude of her room, for at least the rest of the trip. Her thoughts were scrambled as the train hit a bump on the track, thankfully staying on the rails, yet her body was thrown backwards, her bottom hitting the sit in a harsh thump. It took her a moment to figure out what happened and looked around. Nothing was amiss, nothing was moved. Only black dots appeared in her vision for a short while.

"Are you alright miss?"

She expected the old conductor to be back once again yet was wrongly mistaken. Breath caught in her throat as all she could do was stare, blinking. He licked his lips in nervousness, staring into her eyes even though she made him blush. Slowly, she stood, taking one step forward. "I...I am fine." She could not avert her gaze from his capturing emerald eyes.

"I'm Sh-" Her finger touched his lips, his silky smooth lips, quieting him.

No formalities... His eyes sparkled, taking a step inside her room sliding the door shut behind him, locking it.

Hot breath hit their faces, "It's cold outside. Don't you think?"
