I own nothing except what I own. My story "Death shall not us Part" didn't get too many reviews, but they were all good, so I think I'll try another tragedy. I don't think this one is as good though. This has no particular place in the story: it's after Jack's rescue but before Jones' defeat.

Jack stood in the crows-nest, watching Elizabeth. It was something he was doing far more than he should lately. She was still engaged to Will, and he shouldn't be wanting her, loving her, but that was exactly what he was doing. Elizabeth glanced up, no doubt feeling his eyes upon her. She stared at him for a few seconds, then guiltily turned her head when Will called her. She ran to the rail, where Will stood. The whelp was pointing out to sea, and several of the crew members started scurrying around on deck.

Jack grabbed a loose rope and swung down to the deck. Elizabeth ran by as he landed and they both tripped, falling to the deck. The ship rocked violently, and they rolled down. Jack heard someone yell "KRAKEN!!" as he landed on top of Elizabeth. She looked up at him with fear in her eyes. That word evoked so many bad memories. Shackles and deception and stench and pain from a thousand searing teeth. It also brought back the memory of a kiss. A kiss from lips which were now temptingly close to his own. She saw his eyes darken and shook her head. He rolled off.

He had seen the want in her eyes, but now saw why she had stopped him. Will was glaring at him from a couple of feet away. Darn that whelp! Elizabeth watched Will run off with a guilty look. Jack grinned at her, then began shouting orders.

This battle was reminiscent of the first, but Jack did not flee. He was aware that if he were to die again, he would really be dead. There would be no rescue and resurrection. It would be the end. The idea of death was frightening, but he did not dwell on it.

The Kraken eventually backed off, as it had before. This was like some horrific déjà vu, giving the order to abandon ship, touching the rail, wishing he didn't have to give up his beloved ship in order to save his friends. His friends and the woman he loved. Watching everyone climb down the ladder, except Elizabeth. Knowing what he had to do, and hating it. Why wasn't Elizabeth leaving? Did she still not trust him to do the right thing without being forced to? Was she going to try to chain him again? She was leaning up toward him. Did she really think she could trick him again the same way as before? As his mouth met hers, he realized she probably could.

She pressed him back again, back until he hit the mast. He knew what was happening, so he allowed himself to enjoy this last kiss. She opened her mouth, letting him deepen the kiss. He kept waiting for the click of shackles, but the sound never came. Elizabeth pulled back. "Jack, you're going to stay, aren't you?" her voice was as breathless as his when he answered. "Yes. I was able to move around in the Kraken, I know where its heart is. I'm going to kill it, and the rest of you will be able to defeat Beckett and Jones. So you don't have to make me do it, Lizzie." Tears ran down Elizabeth's face as she walked to the ladder. Jack prepared for her leaving. To his shock, she pulled out and cocked a pistol, aiming it at the crew in the lifeboat.

Jack scurried to the rail, watching the shocked looks on the men's faces. Will looked absolutely horrified. Elizabeth spoke. "Go. I am staying here. This time, I'm following my heart. Will, I'm sorry. Now go." They hesitantly began rowing away.

Elizabeth turned back to Jack. He kissed her hard, pushing her back against the mast again. When they pulled back, the stench and the roar alerted them to the Kraken's presence. At the same time, they both whispered, "I love you", as the ship and its two occupants were swallowed whole.
