Above all shadow rides the sun,
And stars forever dwell,
I will not say the day is done,
Nor bid the stars farewell.
He would not give up, he absolutely refused. He no longer cared what happened to himself, only Frodo, that was all that mattered. No matter how tired he was, or hungry, or thirsty, or hurt, or depressed, or afraid, Frodo needed him, and that was all that mattered.
He knew that there was some hope, some end, some light that they were walking towards, there had to be. He didn't know what it was, or if they would reach it, but it was there, and that was enough. He saw it, even in the barren, foul, dead land of Mordor. It was in Frodo, his dear, precious Mr. Frodo. It was in every breath Frodo took, every word he spoke, no matter how tired or weak he seemed, the very fact that he still lived was enough. And Sam was determined to make sure that hope stayed alive, whatever the cost.
Whatever it took, he would see Mr. Frodo through this and safely back in the Shire, because that was where they belonged. He couldn't say how he knew it, he just did. In the end, everything would be all right. They would, one day, find the stars again. As long as Frodo still lived there was hope, there was always hope.
