quiet
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters.
Roxas likes the quiet. He stares off into the sunset, savoring his sea-salt ice cream. Neither one of the friends say anything. Axel knows that Roxas likes it quiet, so even though he's just itching to speak, he doesn't, for his friend's sake.
Axel hates the quiet. It's not that he particularly loves to talk, but he does just to fill out the silence, that blank, overpowering silence. Roxas knows Axel hates it quiet, so even though he's enjoying the moment, he speaks, for his friend's sake.
Sora is enjoying the quiet as he sleeps. He likes it either way. Quiet is good, he can rest and enjoy it. Loud is good, he can talk to his heart's content. He's always liked the quiet, but never been able to stand being quiet.
Kairi is standing on the shore. She's withdrawn into the quiet. It has overpowered her, as she stares of into space. She remembers, ever so vaguely, staring at the sunset, breaking the quiet but at the same time encouraging it.
Riku thinks the quiet is like the darkness; it can be used for good, but it's better off left alone. He is longing for the voice of his friends, longing for the voice of anybody, anything to shake off the endless silence.
Roxas is silent again. Axel doesn't reply. Sora is peaceful. Kairi is lonely. And Riku is wishing. Everybody is quiet.
It has overpowered them all. There are things to say, but they don't dare break the silence. They all sigh at the same moment, but the quiet isn't lost.
The quiet can be good, bad, reassuring, reminding, and destroying. But just like them, it merely exists. And they suddenly realize there is nothing to say.
