A snippet from the season 2 episode Among The Few. Sam is so clever, I love her. I should mention that I know as much about 1940's British slang as I know about modern British slang…so I know nothing, basically.
Sam bared her teeth in frustration, letting her hair fall in front of her face as Mr. Bennett chattered behind her. He was a twit, but she would never say as much out loud. She turned to smile in agreement, mouth closed, resisting the urge to roll her eyes. His approval of women drivers was probably more to do with the pretty young women in and out of the depot. Trapped in conversation with him, she barely acknowledged the roar of a motorbike until a familiar warm voice called her name.
A sinking feeling in her stomach Sam looked up into the face of Andrew Foyle. He grinned at her, handsome as ever, asking is she remembered him. As if she'd forget.
"Do you two know each other?"
"Yes!" Andrew grinned even wider, and Sam fought down a quick surge of panic.
Thinking quickly she glanced at Mr. Bennett, and willed Andrew with big eyes and a nodding head to agree with her. "We stepped out together, when I worked on my Uncle's removal farm."
Andrew, looking desperately confused nodded in agreement. Sam quietly breathed a sigh of relief, inching closer to Andrew as Mr. Bennett studied the acquisition slip, walking away. Pulling a serious face she tried to convey to Andrew the seriousness of her position, explaining in hushed tones that she was undercover and this was important but Andrew only grinned and joked, typical.
"What's so funny?"
"Ahem…nothing. Did my father ask you to do this?"
"No, I uh, volunteered." Heads still bowed Andrew looked her eyes, sincerely promising not to speak a word.
Trying not to look guilty when Violet, another woman driver, coming out of the depot called Andrew's name, Sam backed away from Andrew. He had already turned around at the sound of Violet's greeting, swinging an arm around her shoulders. Behind on washing the blasted truck, and needlessly frustrated with Andrew, Sam took the stippled brush to the truck a little harder than necessary, listening to not-so-subtle hint of jealously in Violet's voice. But Andrew was a good sport and played along, so when he reassured his girl it was all over between him and Sam, Sam turned her face up, and looked Violet straight in the face. "Totally over between us." Because there was never an "us" to begin with.
Clenching her teeth she listened to the two walking away, Andrew placating Violet as they walked, Sam tuned to watch him go.
She didn't realize Andrew had a girl.
This will definitely be an ongoing series, focused on Sam and her point of view and her interactions with the characters around her. I may or may not veer off course canon wise, in terms of her relationships- since I'm a pretty devoted Andrew/Sam shipper. But mostly canon and mostly on course.
