You know the drill. Brotherhood OST, Trisha's Lullaby, etc. I'm becoming quite predictable, aren't I?
Disclaimer: Nope.
Edward lay on top of the covers, tossing and turning restlessly as he slept. He spoke quietly, mumbling almost incomprehensibly as he dreamed.
"No... No... 't hurts..."
Softly, the door opened, and his mother walked in quietly, feet padding silently across the floor as she sat on the edge of his bed. Pushing his bangs out of her sons face with a soft sad smile, she sang softly.
Sleep my child,
Dream sweetly, in the warmth and comfort of your bed
Shifting in his sleep, Ed rolled over, quieting as he curled in closer to her. Safe...
I watch you, always you,
I hold only you to my breast, tenderly,
I have always held you to me
She would keep the nightmares at bay; keep away the shadows as she gathered her boy close to her gently.
Carried away in your sleep,
In a field of flowers, my children, sleep...
Sleep sweetly my Child.
"Mom..." he sighed, nuzzling into her. The horrors abated, and he could picture it; the little house on the hill, the mother and her sons. Warmth enveloped him, and he settled into a deep, true sleep.
Gently now,
Without your father, children,
Loved only by your mother
Alphonse sat alone, reading by the faint lamplight as he waited for dawn. But his mind kept wandering, trailing back to darker memories.
He never told, not even Ed. He never told how the shadows terrified him, how scared he felt as darkness fell.
She knew, though. She knew how he needed that faint light. And she helped it glow brighter as she drew near, laying a warm hand that the armoured boy swore he could feel upon his spiked shoulder.
I watch you, always you,
Your heart I watch, may it have no pain,
Sleep sweetly my child.
She would stand guard, she sang softly. She would watch, just for one night. Her baby could have peace, because she would stay strong and powerful, would beat back the blackness.
In the room without your mother,
In the room until the dawn...
The two boys woke, one from sleep and the other from the peaceful drifting that was all he could achieve. A single night without tearless weeping or fearful cries. Each watched the other strangely, wondering if they both felt it, that faint warmth around them.
Trisha watched as well, a soft smile gracing her face even as she felt the Gate's light envelop her again, pulling her back. Her boys would be alright, she knew.
Eh, not my best. But I think it turned out pretty well, what do you think?
You know what? You can even tell me what you thought! How is this possible? Why, by reviewing, of course! Come on, you know you want to!
...
NOTE (03/08/13): It was pointed out to me in a Guest review that I didn't explain why Trisha was there in the first place, and that it didn't make sense for the Gate to let her go at all. You know, Equivalency and all that jazz. Well, funny thing; I don't really have an explanation *sweatdrop* hehehe
So, yeah. That's all. Please excuse the discrepancy (good word, right there. Look it up, expand your vocabulary! Always fun!) in the facts. This piece was written mainly because I love Elric family fluff. This was in no way meant to be taken seriously, and I like it as it is. So, there's your explanation, oh lovely Guest reviewer: I got nothing. Equivalent Exchange- pfft, what Equivalent Exchange? Thank you for reviewing, though! I love hearing what people think, and you got me thinking too!
