Paka
Chapter One
Instinct told Nala to kill it. A swift bite to the neck, a clean sweep of a paw; it would be so easy. It smelled of her kind, of lion, but at the exact same time it did not. It smelled of lion but it also smelled foreign. She thought, maybe, it was a sickly newborn cheetah cub or something else of the cat variety without being exactly a lion, but she was far from sure.
Whatever it was, it was small, blind, deaf, unable to walk just yet, and utterly pathetic. To sentence it to death would be a kind fate, kinder than letting it wallow out here in the hot Savannah sun until it perished of dehydration or starvation.
Nala licked her lips, not in hunger, but in nervousness, something in her unwilling to snuff out the young creature, whatever species it may be's life. Yet she had to. It was in forbidden territory, the Pridelands, intruders had to be punished. Just as she was about to reach down and swiftly break it's neck it raised it's tiny wobbly head up towards the heat he sensed from her body and let out what could only be described as a cub's pleading mew for it's mother.
And with that Nala's resolve to swiftly end this unsightly creature vanished. Instead, with a gentle mouth she gathered the tiny creature in tender jaws and carefully made her way back to Priderock.
Story is to be updated as I see fit. Please leave me a review and let me know if I should continue and what you think so far.
Yes, it's a newborn kitten. A regular domestic kitten haha. Paka, in fact, means cat in Swahili.
