This will be a collection of (very) short stories, based on the BBC series "Doctor Who." Some will take place during the Time Lord Academy era, others will be present day. As I write them, I will upload to them to here. They might get lengthier over time, too.
This story was based off a picture I saw, and I'm sure many of you saw. It was a picture of a gravestone, which read "The Doctor. He Saved Others." This got me thinking of what it could mean. While the most likely scenario is some doctor was passing through and helped, then passed away before anyone knew his name, I think I like this better. This was not written with a specific Doctor in mind, so it could really be any regeneration Ten or after.
Jackson and the Doctor
The day Jackson Lake had passed away, the Doctor had just happened to be passing through. It was just one of those rare coincidences that almost never happen. When he had heard of this, he knew that was why the TARDIS had taken him there. There was no immediate threat, at least, none that he had seen yet. So, with not being busy, he decided to stop by and say a final farewell.
The funeral was modest, and the man who had once thought he was a Time Lord now lay still. In that moment, the Doctor remembered why he didn't do funerals. It was strange, seeing him now considerably older, as it seemed just yesterday that Jackson had been helping the Doctor defeat the Cybermen. Or was that a hundred or so years ago? It was hard to keep that straight with time travel. Fifty years for one was five minutes for another. It was a very odd thing.
The funeral itself had gone by very quickly, and before he knew it, he was standing at the gravestone. But seeing it, he knew it wouldn't do. The Doctor knew he was more than that, more than what the humans knew. He was more than what most people thought of, and he deserved to be honored properly. Even though he knew that Jackson couldn't get a Time Lord funeral, something had to be done. So, when no one was looking, he slipped away, back to the TARDIS, back to before the gravestone was carved. With a little tweaking of the plan, and a bit of the use of the psychic paper, he was able to change what the stone said. Rather than "Jackson Lake. A Great Man," it now would read "The Doctor. He Saved Others."
For what better way to be remembered than for keeping other people safe?
