The Dance
He had found an empty classroom and waited for her to walk by. He knew she would. When she did his arm snaked out of the darkened space and pulled her in. Placing a finger over her lips to silence her, he asked, "Do you want to listen to me for a moment?"
She nodded.
"I know we don't have a lot of history in this area, but I want you to know that I would like to kiss you."
There it was. Blunt and to the point, otherwise he would chicken out. He had been watching her rush up and down the halls for over 15 years. He had wanted to do this for about eight of those, but until recently he had not felt it was appropriate.
She said, "Yes."
He pulled her into his arms and slowly lowered his mouth to meet the one she had turned up to meet his. Inch by inch they neared. Second by second they began to breathe in unison. Slowly carefully they could hear the beating of their hearts, surely so loud that the other could as well. Carefully they closed the gap and gingerly touched. Tentatively at first, then more and closer until they were pressing into the warmth of the other's lips.
Silently questioning he opened his mouth a fraction and his tongue licked the line between her lips. She answered by opening to allow entry. As the fireworks exploded in her ears, they began a tango. One tongue dancing around the other, sliding up one side and down the other like a foot sliding up a leg and down in an evocative movement. Gradually the dance evolved into a Paso doble where one tongue was the bullfighter and the other the bull. Moving, darting, retreating, coming back for more until the finale. One wins, the other allows the win.
As slowly as they had come together, they pulled apart. Both panting, breathless, yearning. As suddenly as the whole ordeal had begun it ended with the noise in the corridor that foretold the thundering hordes of students.
"Tonight, my rooms after curfew?" he asked.
"Yes," she replied.
