I'm doing a one shot that I thought up on the five hour bus ride to Chicago. Well, actually I though it up on the ride home from Chicago! Oh my god, I loved it!
Anyway, I got hit with a bout of inspiration when reading Death Note number 5; when Papa Yagami is taking Light and Misa to their 'execution' and he mentions that if the Kira killings didn't stop, then L would kill himself. Well, there's a twist on that. It a 'what if that really happened?'
I don't own anything. On with the show, yo!

He was wrong. The shock went through his lithe body like a cold wave and rested heavily in the pit of his stomach.
His dark eyes swept over the dim hallway that led to the injection room (the very same room that they had taken Misa to after finding her aimlessly wandering the streets only a few days prior.) Watari led him into the small, closed off space with a one way mirror that he knew the remaining task force members would watching from. The old man (who, in some ways, was like a father to the childish detective) refused to meet the young man in the eye. L knew that the man would grieve privately later.
He laid down on the hard, black plastic chair and allowed his skinny arm to be strapped down.
He was wrong.
They had found Chief Yagami's parked car in a remote business area just outside of Tokyo; there was brain matter splattered over the windows along with dark, ruby red blood. Light's body was slumped over in the back seat, his beautiful face stained with the life giving liquid; Chief Yagami had killed himself by placing the gun in his mouth. They had found Amane only an hour later.
L watched with clearly masked eyes as Watari prepared the lethal drugs. The man opened his mouth a fraction of a centimeter, "You don't need to do this, Lawliet." He said in their native English. L watched the man arrange the drugs and needles according to size. He smiled sadly (more of a slight quirking of his thin lips), and looked back up to the pitted ceiling.
"No, Quillish, I have to do this…" Watari's old hand stilled only for a second over the needle, before he precariously picked up the shiny, silver needle. He finally met L's grey eyes, and the young man could see the tears misting over his old eyes. "Though I'm glad to have been killed by you, my friend." L saw Watari clench his jaw only slightly before the old man nodded.
"Yes."
L flinched as the needle slid into his right arm's vain, and as the liquid was pushed into his system. His heart sped up rather quickly as it tried to get more and more oxygen to his brain to keep his systems from failing, but the detective knew better.
He was wrong, and so he died.
Kira won.

Soo…m'yep, there ya go. I'm so sorry for the late updates for 'No Refunds'; I've been EXTREMLY lazy, and I promised myself that I would write during my trip…but that didn't happen.
Please review!
