A/N: little one shot, not amazing but not awful. The idea came from watching Scrubs, and I thought that it made sense. Also, I did this to avoid, what I hate most, weird spilling their heart stories in two seconds flat for no reason at all. And maybe, yeah, it's a little bit on the 'no reason at all' side, but it's okay.
Disclaimer: don't own it, this is just for fun.
Be Okay.
Two agents were down in autopsy, Ziva and Tony. Ducky was there too, minding his own business, quietly discussing more compelling matters with the corpses. He hadn't been paying a lot attention to what Ziva and Tony had been saying, he'd only caught the occasional flirtatious banter that seemed to bore him, only now did he notice how quiet it had become. He was about to hum to himself a little louder, thinking they were gone, but as he turned he saw them, Tony and Ziva staring through glassy eyes at one another. At first he wondered how long it would take for them to break the staring competition, then he wondered if he was stuck in time, then he wondered if they even realised. Then Ziva spoke:
"I'm tired of this."
Ducky sighed, staring competition it was.
"I'm tired of pretending."
Or possibly not.
"I'm tired of flirting and getting no where."
Wait, what?
"I'm tired of telling myself it doesn't matter."
Ducky stepped back, trying to make himself invisible to the 'couple'.
"I'm tired of using our jobs as an excuse not to give us a try."
Interesting…
"Tony? I'm tired, because I can't sleep."
Finally Ducky heard Tony's voice:
"That's what usually happens."
Typical Tony. Then Ziva spoke, her words quiet that Ducky's aging ears only just heard.
"I'm tired because when I lie in bed, all I think of is you and I just can't stop."
Ducky half-smiled to himself, but still dreaded that Tony would mess it up.
"Ziva. I'm tired of saying no."
Ducky was sad, sad that Abby didn't get to see this, so he made a mental note of everything that happened in the next few seconds so he could say exactly.
Abby's lab:
"Then Ziva looked down at her feet, waiting for him to do something, I almost felt like pushing the boy, but he did. He took a step forward, then another before finally taking his finger to lift up her small face, and for once he didn't see anger or sarcasm there, he saw longing and love, he saw a mirror of his own feelings. And just before they kissed, there was the smallest smile, it was a smile of reassurance, he couldn't let her down."
Abby held her heart and engulfed Ducky in a hug, "I'm so happy for them."
Bullpen:
Gibbs looked over at the two agents, "You know rule 12?"
Tony glanced at Ziva, attempted to hide his frown before they both nodded, knowing it was possibly over; Gibbs had rules for a reason.
"Well," Gibbs continued, "You know rule 51?"
Ziva turned to Tony but he just shrugged.
"You two will be okay, because today, you're right."
This time it was McGee that caught the looks that were exchanged between his two colleagues, yeah, they'd be okay.
