There was a patronus gliding gracefully around the room; casting its warmth and good feelings all around the dungeon classroom and its caster. The man who had cast the patronus was desperately trying to feel the warmth and happiness it had taken to cast it, but to see the Doe, only made him sink deeper into the sadness. The Boy had begun his time at Hogwarts this year, and Dumbeldore had been right; he did have her eyes.
Severus Snape stood and walked over to the patronus. The Doe stood and watched him, its big eyes full of the happiness he had when he thought of her. Lily. The only person he'd ever loved. Severus had to sit back down; the pain in his chest was too great. Harry looked just like James, and it made Severus mad. As if it wasn't punishment enough that James had taken his Lily, but the universe hated him enough to send him their child; a spitting image of James.
The patronus walked over and laid its head on Severus's arm; its warmth spread through his arm and it made him smile. Lily had always made him smile. He wished she was still alive. Even being alive and living with James, rather than with him, was better than this. Anything was better than this.
A ruckus came from outside his classroom and, startled, the Doe disappeared, "Wait..." Severus whispered, but the patronus was gone, and so was its comforting feelings; the dungeon felt cold and lonely again. Severus Snape stood and stormed over to the door to the classroom. He flung it open and Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter were arguing outside the door, while the other first years egged them on. Severus sneered and said, "Well, well, well. Fighting already Mr. Potter? On the sixth day of school? Ten points from Gryffindor." Severus thought he'd get some satisfaction in seeing James's face angry and confused, but all he saw was Lily's eyes. Lily's eyes being sad, angry, hurt and confused. And Severus Snape's heart broke. Again.
