Foolish Mistakes

"I've been so stupid Smithy. I literally planned an armed robbery; there's no way I can get out of it, its all on tape" Her eyes reddening and weeping tears at the realisation of what her actions may have caused.

"We'll fight it together Kerry, your not on your own" Smithy tried to persuade her, her couldn't lose her again, not now.

"What's the point, no court is going to believe me Smithy. There's evidence against me and you and I both know it doesn't look good." She wanted to believe him but she couldn't. Now wasn't the time to kid herself, her life was in ruins and the aftermath lay in front of her.

Smithy turned to look at Kerry's father, he was lying still opposite them and he could see the angst in Kerry's eyes. Holding out his hand she took it and he pulled her in close. Feeling his body holding her tight was comfort and she held onto that feeling for as long as she could.

"Whatever happens, whatever you decide to do; im here for you Kerry. I always will be" She smiled. So many people had let her down in life, how was she to believe this? But something told her Smithy wasn't lying, she know him too well.

"I…Love you Kerry" Smithy stammered as he held her. It was an advantage being this tall, it meant he could protect her and make her feel protected. Even if he feared the future too.

She turned her head to look at him; she knew this was the truth and that he meant it more than anything he had ever previously said.

Smiling, she sighed and wiped away a tear,

"I don't deserve you. You deserve someone better, someone who hasn't ruined their life Smithy"

"But I don't love that person, I love you. I love everything about you Kerry, you're not perfect but that's what I love about you. Lets face it, who wants a perfect girlfriend it would be fine at first but god it would get boring." Smithy's lighthearted chuckle brought a light tone to the conversation and even Kerry could muster a smile.

Kerry couldn't say anything; instead she looked back at the man behind her. They were meant to be flesh and blood but over the past few months Kerry had drifted away further than she had thought. It hurt her to think of this and knew that she had to change it.

"I can't be selfish anymore Smithy. Its my dad I need to worry about, if he is ok then I can start rebuilding my life." She smiled, it hurt her to say this, it felt as if her heart was being ripped out but it was for the best.

Instead she held his hand for as long as she could before he walked out to leave. Before completely leaving the room he turned back to face her.

"If you need me you know where I am" He smiled and Kerry felt reassured that she had someone to fall back on for when she fell.

Smithy smiled to himself as he walked down the corridor in his search to find Yvonne. At last he found her, leaning on a coffee machine she sighed with relief as he bounced down the corridor.

"You took your time didn't you? I hope you told her everything" She smiled, seeing him blush slightly she gave off one of her belly laughs.

"There weren't nothing to tell if you must know PC Hemmingway" Smithy said, mocking his authority.

"Yeah" Yvonne laughed, totally unconvinced of Smithy's excuse.

A brand new Fic I know! But I couldn't help it after watching the UK Gold eps where they confess their love for each other. This Fic has certain parallels with what happened apart from she doesn't die wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
