Set up

With this story I wanted to prepare the read what there about to read. Chapter one jumps right into the middle of things so I thought it would be nice to give a little back ground/ time line of what has happened.
This story takes place in London in 1899. Two years after the movie. Now since I was little and watched this movie and now at my age now there was only one thought that went threw my head (besides my love for the criminal mind). What if Ratigan some how lived? Well this story is based on that idea. So here is a little back ground information for those who will be interested in reading.
Ratigan (some how lives) was taken to a woman's house and was taken care of by this kind soul. He had stayed with her for the rest of 1897 and most of 1898 before leaving to reclaim what was his. He had been staying low not wanting Basil (who still thinks his dead) to know about him. But during the time he was regaining what was his he never he would have fallen in love like he did.
The woman during the times she had spent with Ratigan had opened up and explained that she ran away from home at a young age. When he asked her why she explained that her father was abusing her mother and she knew only in time he would turn and attack her. She had kept him company while he was injured when she was not at her job as a waitress. She also had told him when he asked about her living style how she had always been poor.
During the woman's disappearance at her young age her parents had been looking for her. Her mother out of worry where her father was more out of wanting what he saw was his back. (Reason I put this will be mentioned in the story)
