I always manage to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. I was still in a daze as I awoke in the middle of a conversation with every one but Pony- Boy.
" I have work so I can't tell him" Darry said with a sigh.
" Well, Steve and I do too!" Soda shot back with mock anger. Steve shook his head in agreement.
"Two- Bit and I would be glad to" Dally had a sly smile on "Isn't that right?"
"Yha! I can give him a whole bunch of tips and we can even hook him up with some one!"
I couldn't just go back to sleep I had to open my big mouth. "Pony doesn't like it when you leave him out of stuff."
Everyone looked over and smiled, except for Darry who looked rather stern. "Hey Johnny, you know how Pony' s voice has been cracking?"
"Yha?" I still didn't get it.
"Well, I think he's ready for "The Talk" and know one wants to do it, so can you?" then I said the one most stupidest think I ever could have.
"Sure Darry, anything you need"
You see I have a bit of a secret. I haven't hit puberty yet. That's why I still look 14, I just keep telling myself that I'm just a 'late bloomer'. Also with my parents I, as you can guess, I haven't had "The Talk" yet ether so I'm not sure what's suppose to happen.
That's why I got this book from the local library. When I checked it out the librarian looked at me then said, "You boys will do anything for your sweet kicks huh?"
I should have asked what it meant, but I didn't.
"So, um, Pony you see Darry asked me to talk to you about something, ok?" I said poking my head through his door. This was going to be the most awkward Sunday of my life.
"Sure Johnny" he replied looking up from his homework. His voice cracked on my name.
"Well, um, you see, um, I have to give you "The Talk" ok"
His face went red "Ah, ok Johnnycake."
"I'll make this short, ok? So, um, according to this book I read your suppose to start bleeding soon"
"Bleeding?"
"Ah yha, so, um take these." I handed him a box of tampons. "Plug up your privates with this so, you know, it won't go everywhere, ok?"
"If you say so." Pony's face looked like a miniature sun. Mine wasn't much better so I left.
A little while later Soda and Darry came home. " Did it go well champ?" Soda laughed and ruffed my hair.
"Hey, not my hair!"
Pony ran down the stairs holding up a tampon "Hey Johnny what am I suppose to do with thing again?"
Darry looked at him then at me. "Johnny what exactly did you tell him?" at this point Soda was bent over laughing his head off.
"I, uh, got it from this book" I sheepishly handed it over.
Darry looked it over then sighed. " Johnny, this is for girls". If you put my head in a dark cave right now it would be as light as day. Pony through the tampon on the ground and cringed. Soda looked like his head was going to explode.
"We better fix this Soda, pony come up stairs."
"I'll get the banana!" Soda said, breaking his little giggle fit and ran into the kitchen.
After a few seconds later he popped his head out and laughed, "Hey, Johnny. You better come too."
I sigh and climbed the stairs after Pony and Johnny.
