-1Take My Hand
By Liz Smith
What would you do
If I took your hand?
Swore I would love you
To the moon and back
Not faltering for another shining star
What would you do
If I squeezed you?
Held you in my arms
And wouldn't let go
No matter how embarrassed you are
Could you keep smiling?
What would you do
If I cried?
Would you sit and stare
Or take me in your arms?
Would you call me foolish,
Or tell me it would all be ok?
And would you wipe those tears away
With a gentle thumb
Or let them slide down my face?
What would you do
If I told you I didn't care?
Pushed you away
And told you to never look back
Would you,
Could you walk away?
A mix of anger and sadness in your eyes
Or would you break down my defenses,
Crumble the walls I used to keep you out?
Leaving me crying in your arms
What would you do
If I kissed your cheek?
A gentle pressure on a tanned face
Expressing what I feel for you
In a simple gesture
Would you be hurt?
Or pleased?
Would you kiss me in return?
What would you do
If they told us it could never be
Promised we would one day end
Would you give up?
Leaving me to pick up the pieces
Of my shattered life
Or would you defy them?
Take me, no matter what
The good, the bad, the emotional
Let them think what they will
As long as we have each other
But it all starts here, now
What would you do
If I took your hand?
