Prologue
Poseidon knelt over his baby's cradle, gently stroking her cheek. He kissed her on the forehead and the smell of saltwater wafted in the room. His blessing. The door opened and Poseidon looked up, startled. Hera strode into the room, her falling out of an elaborate bun.
He was at her side in an instant, touching her shoulder. "What's wrong? Hera?"
She shrugged him off and knelt at her baby's bedside. "He's coming." She whispered, not taking her eyes off the child.
Poseidon had gone white. "Zeus?" He breathed, his body suddenly feeling very cold. Hera nodded, still not looking at him. There was a rumble in the distance as if Zeus could hear his name even when whispered.
The doors banged open and a man stalked into the room, eletricity cracking off him and smelling like a thunderstorm. "How dare you?" He shouted at Poseidon who couldn't move but when Zeus moved towards the child Poseidon stepped in his path.
"Don't touch her." Poseidon stared him down.
Zeus glared at him, narrowing his eyes. "What is she to you? She will never be accepted anywhere. A daughter of Poseidon and Hera." Poseidon raised his hand as if to strike Zeus but he slowly lowered it.
Zeus smirked. "Good, little brother." Poseidon stepped aside, lowering his head. Zeus leaned over the cradle, a glint of fear in his eyes. "She smells like the sea." He muttered to himself and then whipped his head around to look at Poseidon. "She has your blessing on her."
Poseidon backed up, fear plain on his face. Zeus pointed a finger at him. "Do you know what this means? Since she has your blessing, I cannot touch her. I cannot harm her!" The baby yawned and turned over while Zeus stared at it in awe. "You've doomed us all."
Hera stood up then. "For God's sake, Zeus. She's just a child."
Zeus glared at them and then made his way to the doors. "Send her to Camp Half-blood!" He called over his shoulder. Hera ran after him while Poseidon picked up the baby girl.
"I name thee Nora. Immortal, honorable, usurper of Zeus." An arc of lightning shot from the sky and struck the child, tearing it from Poseidon's hands. He watched her fall, like she was an angel falling from the heavens.
