"Ho, ho, ho, Gibbs," Abby said softly, stopping by his desk – the only one at which someone was still seated within the area that they could both see. Her Santa clause hat perched jauntily upon her head, she asked, "What are you still doing here? Don't you know that we solved the case? And better yet, I just got a call and the doctors are saying that all those poor kids are going to be well enough to be at home by Christmas Eve!"
"That's great, Abs," Gibbs said with a small smile, looking up from his paperwork.
Abby repeated her original question, asking, "What are you still doing here?"
"Just filling out the case report before I go home."
Abby frowned, admitting, "Sometimes I think Tony's right, you know – about you being a scrooge."
"I am not a scrooge," Gibbs objected with a sigh. "See, I even have cake with me."
"Ooh! Where'd you get it; it looks yummy!"
"From Bishop… but I think that Tony got to it before she could give it to me."
Abby surveyed the cake carefully before asking, "Why; did he eat any of it?"
"Nope," Gibbs said drily, pointing at a plant frond that he had set aside on his desk. "But I can't see Bishop leaving me that tucked in the back of her box of cake."
"Is that mistletoe?" Abby laughed.
Gibbs nodded, tapping the note beside the leaf. "It came complete with this – which is in Tony's handwriting, I noticed."
Abby swiped the piece of paper from off of the desk and read in the dim lamplight, "'For Ebenezer to hang over whoever he wants in the name of relaxing and starting his Christmas vacation off right.'" She snorted, "Oh, wow! That is definitely Tony." She looked at Gibbs out of the corner of her eye, and something possessed her to say, "Maybe you should do it."
Gibbs raised his eyebrows at her. "You think so, do you? Well, maybe I just will."
"You should," Abby repeated with another innocent smile.
Gibbs glanced from the mistletoe to her and back again while seeming to mull this over to himself. After a second he nodded to her, his eyes flashing the message if that's really what you want as he grabbed the mistletoe, stood up, and held the plant over the desk between them. Over their heads. Between them.
"Gibbs?" Abby squeaked, desperately trying to curb the hope twining through her heart.
"The note said 'whoever' I want, and you wanted me to follow the note," he pointed out, asking her softly, gently, "Do you still want me to?"
Abby smiled, leaning across the desk between them to kiss him before whispering against his cheek, "Yes, please."
Gibbs smiled a real smile this time, wide and downright joyful before he stepped around his desk, wrapped his arms possessively around her waist and kissed her again before saying, "Whatever you want, Abs."
Where my muse took me just because of the way that my mind sifts through characters (I really am more of a Jibbs and McAbby sort of girl), but anyway...) Hopefully you enjoyed this. Reviews make my day!:)
