Summary: How Hawkes and Lindsay met

Lindsay had been in New York for nearly a week and was still amazed at how the case load was and how efficient the lab was, as busy as she was she was enjoying every minute of it. Learning new things and being able to show everyone what she's capable of, the one upside was the fact that she wasn't around people she had known her entire life and knew everything about her and treated her like the little kid they remember here she can be an adult and around people who don't know her life story. Lindsay knew that she hadn't met most of the team of people who work at the lab or the detectives from the precincts that they would be working with. Lindsay took in a deep breath as she continued to look over apartment rental ad's in the paper in her break when someone came into the break room.

"Hi" the man said as he walked into the break room, noticing the new girl there, silently glad that he wasn't the newbie anymore, happy to pass that torch on.

"Hi" Lindsay said looking up from the paper to address the man.

Hawkes walked over to Lindsay after getting a drink from the fridge, and saw what she was looking at "Still looking?"

Lindsay nodded and replied with a smile "Yeah"

"Any luck?"

Lindsay looked up "Not really"

Hawkes nodded knowing how hard it was to find a good apartment in New York, one that was close to the lab for any late night call outs and one that was far enough away that you weren't on it's doorstop.

Hawkes sat down on the stool opposite Lindsay and held out his hand "Sheldon Hawkes"

Lindsay smiled "Lindsay Monroe" Lindsay said shaking his hand

"Bozeman right?"

Lindsay nodded "Yep"

"Country girl through and through then?"

Lindsay smiled "Yeah, I'm still kicking the dust off my boots"

Hawkes returned Lindsay's smile "Big change?"

"Most definitely"

"Good?"

"Be better once I've got an apartment"

Hawkes nodded

Lindsay looked at Hawkes "You're the ex ME right?"

Hawkes nodded "Yep"

"That's a bit of change of pace"

Hawkes nodded and gave Lindsay a smile "It is but I'm loving every minute of it"

Lindsay nodded knowing how satisfactory it was when they closed a case and the perpetrator was put in jail allowing the victims family and friends get closure.

"I guess this is bit of a change for you, from the country to here?"

"It is, but it's one that I'm glad for"

Just then the door opened and one of the lab techs that Lindsay had met briefly the day before came in "Detective Hawkes, we have the tox screen results"

Hawkes nodded then stood up and looked at Lindsay "Welcome to New York"

Lindsay smiled and nodded "Thanks"

"Well if you need any help moving in once you've got your apartment let me know"

"Careful I might take up on it"

Hawkes smiled "Good" Hawkes said before moving off, thinking that Lindsay seemed to be a good addition to the team after Aiden left.

Lindsay watched as Hawkes moved off and saw him discuss the results with the tech and thought that she would probably be taking him up on his offer and that she seemed to be making fast friends with her new co workers.
