Encounter at Tauron

The colonial squad of 13 soldiers, was reinforced by a Pallas tank and 3 armored personnel carriers, they were alerted to Tau'ri tanks in the area and had been digging "fighting pits" to be turned into a "fire trenches" if time allowed. The difference being they could stand up in a fire trench where a pit was only a foot or so deep.

One of the soldiers Pvt Morris yelled out to Staff Sergeant Henderson "tanks" and the sergeant ordered his men to disperse to their fighting positions. A round from a Tau'ri tank slammed into the Pallas rattling the men inside but not getting thru the armor, the Pallas fired the round that was already chambered but it when wide. A second round from the Tau'ri struck the Pallas right at the bottom of the turret, one of the weaker points on a tank destroying it.

Cpl Winters yelled out now there are 4 tanks, Sgt Henderson sensing the fear in his voice, opened the communication link to his squad, calm, guys you know the drill, open fire on their vision slits as soon as possible and get them to button up. There is no infantry with them so wait for them to get alongside your positions before attempting to attach the satchel charges to their sides. Grenadiers if you have a side shot or rear shot take it. Remember, stay in your fighting positions; they can't hit what they can't see. Just like in the movies stay low and stay put and they won't be able to see you. I want to repeat stay in your fighting positions until they are passed then open up on their backsides.

The three APC's were doing their job keeping the Tau'ri tanks buttoned up, but when 2 of them were destroyed by the tanks Henderson ordered the last to withdraw. Now it was up to the 2 heavy machine gun positions Henderson had placed on the flanks.

The tankers inside could hear the rounds bouncing off the sides of the tanks and referred to it as steel rain. From the intensity of the fire, the old timers in the tanks knew this was a bad sign of what will come.

As the Tau'ri tanks passed the colonial fighting positions, two of them got close enough for the colonials to attach their satchel charges. The tanks rolled on for another 20 yards before erupting in flames. With this, the other 2 tanks immediately turned to the left. Sgt Henderson saw this and called Cpl's Winters and Whitehouse. Their passed you, and to your left, open up on them. Everyone else remain in your positions. With this Winters and Whitehouse attached thermite grenades, to their rifles and open fire on the rear of the Tau'ri tanks. A third tank when up in flames but not the other one, the grenades failed to find a weak spot, and it swung around, back to where it came.

Henderson reported to his headquarters and after a few moments got off the radio. He opened the communication link to his men and said, "OK guys you can bet that last tank will be back with some friends and infantry, time to withdraw to a new location, saddle up, and let's move out. It was bittersweet for Henderson his support group took a beating but he still had his twelve guys.
