"You failed. Didn't you?"
"I never fail."
"You may have convinced them but don't lie. Not to me."
Cindy looked at her wife. Her wife who was loyal to law. Her wife who always told her, their love came first. She felt ashamed for lying. She new Lyla would never betray her. "I'm sorry. I just-. I don't know. I couldn't risk it. Having people know."
Lyla placed her hands on Cindy's face studying every detail. "I would never do anything to hurt you. You come first. Always."
Cindy pulled her close. "I'm sorry for even attempting. But if someone finds out." Cindy struggled to say it. "That I lied. They would-. And if they knew that you-."
"No one will ever know. We'll be fine." Lyla held Cindy tight. She held on as if Cindy would vanish if she let go. Lyla would never let go. And neither would Cindy.
