A/N: I was rewatching Winx the other day, and this just popped into my mind and I felt like it would be a shame to not post this somewhere. I might expand on this one day, but for now this is all it's going to be. Enjoy! Based on Episode 313.
A dance of turquoise, a flash of magic, the crackling of lightning and energy and the creak of the lands as it gave way; it filled the air and created a deafening chorus of disconcerting dissonance.
It almost formed a melody, somehow, soaring and crashing and beginning and ending all at once, the symphony's invisible strings pulling the whole song into a crescendo, and then-
Silence.
It was deafening. It crawled into every known crevice, and then some more. People would think that silence is light, weightless, but it really is the opposite. It was smothering. Loud. It was suffocating, the cruel tendrils wrapping around and squeezing hard, mercilessly, such a sharp contrast to only seconds ago.
A jolting reminder of mortality, it seems.
A warning of sorts, of how even the darkest of storms could dissipate in a fraction of a second. That nothing was invincible, nothing was exempt from the cruel grasp of death and endings.
The higher you fly, the further you have to fall. And fall you will, crashing at such a speed where even the sturdiest of wings would fail and crumple like paper. Not that she needed a visual of this, but that's exactly what she caught in the split second between the dark.
Musa had just blinked. A fraction of a second. And somehow, that was all the time it took for a heart to cease beating, for a life to be stolen.
And yet-
Blink.
She lurched forward, her stomach following the motion. She didn't even know what she was doing, only that she was screaming, screaming until her throat burned and her lungs begged for relief. Even that was a pale imitation of the shriek that had rang out mere seconds ago, the latter being pure anguish and fear.
Blink.
Her fists were surely bruised, the unforgiving stones bringing forth pain that brought tears to her eyes. Yet she still struck, banishing the voice that was screaming at the futility of her actions. She just had to do something, to feel as if she was actually trying. She just couldn't relive the memories of the time where she was only able to watch her mother wither away, being helpless in all aspects of that word.
Blink.
The universe pays no heed to her pleading, and she is stuck again playing the same role. The same grief, the same hollow feeling. But this time it's more sudden, a merciless rip at her entire being that burned her, not to mention the fury that had reddened the world.
How dare he, to shatter the entire illusion that kept her (somewhat) sane. How dare he say that she was gone, even though in her hearts of heart she knew he was right.
Blink.
The tears started falling. She made no attempt to quiet herself.
How dare she leave her alone like this.
Blink.
Time kept running, leaving her friend forever stuck in the throngs of the past, until she was dust and ashes in the minds of those who had once held her dear. It's not fair. But when has life every been fair?
She saved the entire universe, yet she had to pay for it with her life. Even with her new powers, which she'd never get to use.
She lashed out, sharpened notes piercing the air and striking an unsuspecting tree. It didn't do anything wrong, but that's just life.
It's completely unfair.
Blink.
They didn't even have a body.
