Hey, everyone! This is my first posted Criminal Minds fanfiction. I've been reading a lot of them over the last few months and getting into the show. So, now that I've soaked it up a bit, here is my first story. This one-shot is based off of the episode "Boxed In", Season 10, Episode 5. Although I had some other stories written, this one is based on Halloween so I thought I would post it while everyone is still into being "spooked". :) This is a new fandom for me to be writing for, so please comment, review, share with your next-door-neighbour's sixth cousin who is your dentist... Let me know what you want! So, enjoy this tiny one-shot and God bless!
Hotch sat on the jet, excited as it was possible for him to be. He would be seeing his little boy this morning. Earlier he had sadly related to JJ that this was the first Halloween that he had missed with Jack. Was the job worth it? Yes, of course. Trick-or-treating, although more enjoyable, was certainly not as necessary as finding a missing twelve year-old being held captive underground. Just like Rossi had told a witness earlier in the case, what anybody else wanted really was of no consequence when a child was missing. But it was hard to once again have the job intrude upon his time with his son. It was scary too - not a black-cat-under-a-ladder scary, but will-my-son-blame-me-someday scary.
…
Hotch walked down the hall at his sister-in-law's direction and saw Jack sprawled out on the sofa, asleep in his Darth Vader costume. He smiled at the sight of his boy, so determined that his daddy see him in his costume. Hotch kissed the top of Jack's head and marvelled at how big his son had got. He could still remember last year. It barely seemed possible that it had been a year. Correction - a year and a day. Regretfully Hotch looked at his son. Another missed holiday, another missed moment with his son, another missed second to soak up the joy of Jack's childhood before he grew up even more.
He would not let the thought spook him. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the big chocolate bar that he had picked up from a 24/7 gas station on the way home. It was Jack's favourite brand. He carefully slipped the treat on top of the pile in the boy's candy bag. He would see it when he woke up in a bit.
Although seeing his son grow up could be the tiniest bit scary, it was also fun.
Just like eating candy with Jack would be!
