New Beginnings

His chocolate brown hair fell in his face as he sighed and pulled his hand over his face.

"Mr. Silvers?" a young lady's voce called.

"Yes? Oh. Yes, Calleigh. Com in! Come in." He ushered.

"Thanks." She shuffled into the band room. The room used to be such a happy place. However, due to the retirement of their beloved band director - things no longer seemed the same.

"What's on your mid?" Mr. Silvers asked, leaning back in his chair.

"I just wanted to see how you were, actually." She admitted to the once assistant director now full time band director.

"Oh?" he questioned. He began to wonder if his fatigue had become evident.

"Yeah. I know things have been hectice for you." She smiled encouragingly.

"Yes. Yes they have." He smiled, his eyes sparkling to his lovely student. "But, we'll get through it."

"Right."
"You ... uh ... need anything else?" He questioned. Noting that she was still sitting completely still.

"Uhm, yes actually. I wanted- " She paused. "I wanted you to know, if anyone had to take over the band - I'm glad it's you." She smiled, adverting her eyes.

"Oh ... Calleigh..." Mr. Silvers leaned forward.Stunned. "That means so much. Thank you."

"No. Thank you." She said as she stood and patted his shoulder. "See you at practice!" She called as she left his room.

Mr. Silvers waved as she left, then sat still. A wide smile broke across his face. Suddenly, he found new confidence in himself and the band. As well, his fatigue was suddenly gone too.
