Don't Wake Me
"Come on, Theta!" Koschei shouted back to his friend. The pair were on the run, though putting it that way made it sound overdramatic. They were skiving, neither of them could pear the thought of the strict Academy teachers that day. They knew it would be worse when they went back, but they also knew it would be worth it. The outskirts of the city were too lovely, each other's company alone too rare for the opportunity to be missed.
Theta caught up with Koschei and took hold of his hand "Think you can keep up?" hr asked with a playful smile before running, pulling Koschei along with him.
Only when they reached their destination did they stop. They were out of the city,, the citdeal now nothing more than a looming building in the distance. Theta dropped down to the ground, lying back and watching the suns playing with the clouds to see who could cover the sky quickest. Koschei sat beside him, looking over the mountains in the distance.
Theta recognised the look on his face as one of regretful thoughts. "We'll get away from here one day, Koschei" he said, an element on certainty in his face. He sat up momentarily to put his arm around Koschei and pull him down to a lying position. "We'll go everywhere" he pointed up and left "That way" then changed directions "and that way"
"You're such a dreamer, Theta" Koschei told him, his tone was slightly bitter and Theta knew why. Koschei had lost all hope in getting away in a way he never would. Theta also knew Koschei wished he could still believe in getting away. "We're never gonna get out. They won't let us."
Theta tried to stop his smile from fading, but it happened anyway "So you're just going to give up? You're not even going to bother trying? You're just going to let them win?"
Koschei didn't answer and a pang of guilt rang through Theta on how harsh he had been. He sat there in silent for a moment watching Koschei carefully. Koschei was aware of Theta watching him and turned away.
Theta lent over him, one hand either side of him, looking down at him, "Get off Theta!" Koschei whined, still quiet and thoughtful.
Theta's smile returned "Nope. You need to stop being so pessimistic and I'm not going to let you up until you are."
"Really?" Koschei challenged, fighting with a smile.
"Really." Theta confirmed "I'm in no rush."
Koschei raised his arms and pushed Theta off him and pinned him to the ground. "You were saying?"
Theta reached up and kissed him quickly, "I'm still right"
"Maybe…"
"Definitely" Theta corrected. "I'm getting off Gallifrey when I'm older and I'm not going without you so you're going to have to come too"
"Promise?" Koschei asked, his brown eyes filling with a mixture of fear and hope. Theta nodded "You won't go without me?"
"Koschei, I would never leave Gallifrey without you. I couldn't. I promise."
Koschei smiled "You better not" he said
"Sealed with a kiss?" Theta pulled him down and kissed him again.
The Doctor woke with a jolt, he found himself shivering. He tried to push the memory out of his mind and tried to stop the tears breaking through. He opened his eyes slowly, just in time to see the Master leaving the room.
He sat up slowly, staring at the door the Master had just left through wondering why he had shown him that. And the only really he could come to was that somewhere beneath the anger and need for control his Koschei was still there, hurting because of his broken promise.
A/N: Inspired by Skillet's song by the same title, I recommend youtubing it, it's an amazing song. Please R&R. I'm loving writing Doctor/Master so much at the moment.
