So, guys, here's a small one-shot I wrote about my favorite character- Gaara! I absolutely LOVE Gaara… He's my favorite!! (Obviously apart from Naruto himself)

So, read n' review dudes and dudettes.

Gaara thought he had a good life.

Gaara of the Desert

Yes, that was he, the wonderful Kazekage, Sabaku No Gaara. The man who was feared and hated by the villagers of The Village Hidden in the Sand.

The one and only Gaara.

This 16 year old was the youngest Kazekage ever. The one who had risen from being the object of the villagers' loathing to their hope and pride. Perhaps one of the most talented shinobi in the Land Of Wind.

And yet, he was defeated by a young, whisker-faced idiot.

As Gaara grew, he noticed that people acted distant around him and treated him unfairly, sometimes downright cruelly. This was until he found out why everyone treated him so. Because of the monster living in him.

And then, of course, he realized that no one was there for him. His uncle, the only source of comfort he had, betrayed him.

Then, Gaara had no one.

He made up his mind. Years of delusions had made him wise. There was no one to help him out in the world. He was alone. No one liked him and he liked no one. He was one who defeated anyone who threatened his existence.

No one understood him. At least, that was what he felt until he fought Naruto Uzumaki.

The very mention of the name sends small waves of respect rippling through Gaara.

Naruto Uzumaki was not a person one could understand very easily. On the outside, one sees him as a loud, hyperactive, funny, somewhat perverted kid.

But, once you got to know Naruto well, you see a deep, hard-working, determined, kind and loving side of him that surprises you.

Gaara never felt friendship or love with anyone.

Until he met the Konoha 11.

Gaara's fight with Naruto changed him greatly. Once a demon demanding attention from others by force, he turned into the Sand Village's trustworthy Kazekage - sama.

Of course, after he became Kazekage and gained a brighter outlook on things, he re-patched his relationship with his siblings, who, he hadn't noticed, were standing by him all the time. He and Kankuro were closer to each other than he and Temari: this was because even though they didn't like to admit it, Kankuro and Gaara were extremely frightened of Temari…

Who isn't?

And then of course, the Konoha 11. Those 11 ninja who saved him from a world of hatred and darkness and into a world of love and happiness.

Even though their villages were far away, Gaara still wrote to his allies in the Leaf. He and Lee still mailed each other every other week and he developed a surprisingly close relationship with Ino and Sakura.

Kiba, Hinata, Shino, Tenten, Shikamaru and Chouji enjoyed teasing him about becoming Kazekage and gave him the nickname "old man".

Neji and Sasuke were the only people who seemed to not be insane in all his friends.

Friends….. the word sounded odd in Gaara's thoughts.

Looking back, Gaara had a very happy life. Friends who loved him, a family that looked out for him, and a village that looked up to him.

Yes, he did have a satisfying life…

Gaara of the Desert.

Corny, I know, but, what to do? I just love the way Gaara develops from this dude with ADD, to a wonderful, understanding person…

and this is basically my view on how things changed him.

And, BTW, this fic is NOT Yaoi. All my friends I read it to thought Gaara was gay, and I'm all WTF?
