"Personally, I think the Avengers compound needs a little more pizzazz," said Steve, glancing over at Natasha. They doing some Christmas shopping ; Steve's arms would have been aching with the weight of the shopping bags if he had not gone through any experimentation. "The more Christmas, the better." Neither of them were bothered much by the cold, brisk winter air, but they did both love the snow.

Natasha shrugged. She wasn't one for the glamor of Christmas. "Stark's gonna have your head, you know," she reminded him. "He already put up Christmas decorations."

Steve frowned as they left the store, heading through the outdoor mall to another one. "His Christmas decorations are just blinking lights and plastic tree. "I'm talking about real Christmas. With a real tree and candy canes and stockings."

"You know Stark hates the real trees. They get that sticky stuff everywhere."

"But that's the best part! And it leaves the house smelling so nice…"

Natasha watched as her friend's face melted into a nostalgic pile of goo. "Fine," she relented. "But I'm not eating any candy canes or anything. Those things are disgusting."

"It's just sugar!"

"That much sugar isn't meant for adult consumption." Nat rolled her eyes, just as someone behind her let out a sharp whistle.

"Why don't you come over here and give me some of that sugar?" said a man on a bench near them. "I sure would like some."

Steve froze where he stood. A chorus of male laughter followed the man's comment, and he could hear more vulgarity growled below their breath that Natasha couldn't. His fists clenched. His mother had always taught him that he should always have respect for women. How could they say something like that about her? Had they no sense of a woman's worth? Had their mothers never taught them how to show a little bit of respect? Breathing hard through his nose, he whipped around. "You—"

All four of the men were already on the ground, groaning and clutching various body parts. One was bleeding profusely from his nose, another clutching his nether regions, and one was wailing about his arm, which was bent in the wrong direction.

Natasha, in her Christmas-red dress, jogged to catch back up with Steve, brushing her hair out of her face. "Sorry about the interruption."

Steve was still in shock. His hand was still raised in the air as if to scold the men.

"Don't worry your pretty little mind, Cap," said Natasha, smirking at his expression. "I handled it."

"But—"

Natasha shushed him with a wave of her hand, walking forward to gaze in the windows of the next store. "Now, let's keep shopping. I gotta find something good for Clint."

Steve shook his head. Who was he kidding? Natasha didn't need saving. She never did. He smiled and followed Natasha into the store.
