The ride to work that morning was different. They shared a car for a change – Kate insisted on driving but today Castle didn't mind. He was in a good mood. The sun was shining, warming the leather seats on their backs and for once they both appreciated it – this moment in time that they could share together. Yesterday was not forgotten; they doubted it ever would be. But today was something special too, it was a new day that Kate and Rick could have as a couple and it was the best day yet.
Castle shook himself out of his daydream as he saw Beckett's eyes giving him that look – the 'why are you staring at me' look. She pulled into the NYPD car park and together they got out and headed up to the squad room. Maybe they were too obvious – their smiles, the skip in their walk, the dazed look on their face. And as they saw the toothy grins shooting across the precinct from Esposito, Ryan and non-other than Lanie Parish they realised that maybe they would have to share their special day with someone else.
