Yato smiled contentedly and snuggled closer to Hiyori, wrapping his arm around her and tucking the blanket closer around them. She looked away from the movie to smile at him and offer him popcorn. He accepted eagerly. What was it about movie theater popcorn that made it taste so much better than the kind you popped at home? It was part of what made him enjoy coming to this little drive-in so much, but only part, he thought as Hiyori rested her head on his shoulder.
They'd come to see Coco, Yato had been wanting to see it since it had come out, and it was the final weekend the movie would be in theaters. Yato was already grabbing every pillow and blanket within arms reach of himself before Hiyori even finished asking if he wanted to go.
There were hardly any other cars there that night, and there had been no wait for the concession stand. They built themselves a nest of blankets and pillows in the back of Hiyori's run down SUV, concealing their own drinks and snacks so they didn't have to pay the ridiculous concession prices, except for the popcorn, which was worth it.
Yato twined the fingers of his free hand with Hiyori's and kissed her on the cheek.
"So what do you think so far?" He asked, glad he didn't have to keep his voice down because there was no one else parked near them.
"The animation is so pretty!"
"I don't trust that guy Hector thinks is his grandpa. He's shady."
"Ooh, I know how you are with shady," Hiyori teased tapping their noses together. "He had better look out."
"I'm telling you, he's bad news."
"I believe you!" Hiyori said, laughing.
"Suuure you do," Yato said, rolling his eyes. "You'll see." Not very much later, she saw.
"I don't believe this," she hissed, sticking her tongue out at Yato's smug expression. "How do you do that every time? You're trolling on spoiler sites, aren't you?" He gasped, feigning indignation.
"How could you accuse me? I thought you knew how I am with shady."
"Oh shut up," she laughed, bumping his shoulder with hers. "I hate you."
"Oh really?" He asked, lifting her left hand in front of their faces so they could both look at the ring on her next to last finger. "Then what's this about?"
"A decoy to keep boys from hitting on me." Yato snorted.
"How's that working for you?"
"Not well."
"You can hardly blame them, it's only a matter of time before that ring gets a mate and they lose their chance forever."
"Bold of you to assume they had a chance to start with." Yato grinned and leaned forward to kiss her, before he got distracted by what was happening on screen.
"I knew it!" He said, shaking Hiyori's shoulders excitedly.
"Okay, okay, I get it! You can predict movies, but I can predict you. I have ten bucks that say you'll cry at the end."
"You're on."
Hiyori left the drive in that night ten dollars richer.
"How could I not cry!" Was Yato's only defense.
