Different
Jacob was completely different now.
He wasn't really himself anymore; he was what Nessie wanted him to be.
His long hair was now cut short, because Nessie wanted it that way. The words "sure, sure" were erased from his vocabulary, because Nessie wanted it that way. He never made jokes anymore, because Nessie wanted it that way.
The only time he could remember who he used to be was when he looked at Leah.
When he looked at Leah, he felt like the old Jacob again, with the long hair, the "sure, sure," and his jokes.
If he focused on Leah long enough, he felt as though Nessie had never even existed.
It was only a matter of time before Nessie would ban Jacob from seeing Leah, Jacob was sure of it.
Then who would Jacob be?
Exactly who Nessie wanted him to be.
