Scorpius creeped down the hall to his parents room and poked his head in, "Daddy, I can't sleep."
Draco looked up from his book, "Me neither bud, me neither. Come on up here with me." Draco patted the bed beside him.
Scorpius crawled up next to his dad, "Why can't you sleep daddy?"
"Because I'm scared son."
"Scared? But you're never scared!"
"I am this time, what about you? Why can't you sleep?"
"I'm scared too. I'm scared of going to Hogwarts tomorrow." Scorpius admitted. Draco was glad Scorpius wasn't afraid to admit he was scared. He had hated when he had to hide how he was feeling when he was growing up. That was the first thing he learned, Malfoys never show emotion. He had made sure his son knew he didn't have to hide anything, Malfoy or not.
"I'm scared of that too son." Draco sighed. He was so worried for his son. He was such an innocent little boy and Draco didn't know how he would handle the prejudices at Hogwarts.
"What! Why would you be scared? You should be happy to finally get rid of me."
Draco knew his son was joking but couldn't help but flinch. That's exactly why his dad had been so happy when he got his letter.
"I'm scared for you. I did some things at school that I'm not proud of. I was a terrible person with a closed mind. I'm worried about how my reputation might affect you. As soon as people recognize you as my son they are going to think you're the same as I was."
"But I am daddy! I'm just like you."
"No Scorp you are a much better person than I am. I'm just worried that you'll hear about the things I did...and be ashamed of me." Draco hung his head as he admitted this to his son.
"I could never be ashamed of you. I don't care if you were a death eater or part of the order. I don't care what you were like during your school days. You're my dad and I will never, ever be ashamed to call you that." Scorpius said indignantly.
"Oh Scorp I told you were better than me. I'm so proud of you. You have such an open mind and don't hold any prejudices. Please keep it that way when you go to school. Don't hate people because of their blood, their house, or the amount of money they have. And know that whatever house you're in I'll love you no matter what."
"Even if I'm not in Slytherin?"
"Especially if you're not in Slytherin. I'm so sorry for any attention you get because of who your father is. I never wanted anything but a good life for you. Just make good friends and study hard."
"I know dad I'll be fine."
"So out of curiosity, what house do you want to be in?"
"Well after reading about all of them, I think Hufflepuff sounds like the best." Scorpius said honestly.
Draco laughed, "I think you'd make a great Hufflepuff son."
He had to disagree with his son though, his was a Gryffindor through and through and he couldn't be more proud of him for it.
