After last year's success, Bruce Wayne decided to hold another Christmas party. This time he extended the guest list to include many more members of the league. Close to half of the new recruits were invited to Wayne Manor. Bruce had never imagined that he would entrust his secret to this many people but there he was, hosting a party to over three dozen people who knew the real Bruce. It felt good to be at a party where he could be himself and not have to pretend to be anyone or keep secrets. It was the best gift anyone could have given him.
Alfred had the job to make sure that everyone was taken care of and that no one who wasn't on the guest list got into the party this time out. It was a duty that Alfred took very seriously as he even enlisted help from the league to make sure this party remained private after last year's fiasco. About an hour into the party, Alfred was feeling good about how things were going and even started to get a little comfy thinking that it was all going to be all right. The butler couldn't have been more wrong.
The door bell had rung and since Alfred was the closest one to it, he rushed over and opened it up and looked at the new guest with a look of absolute shock on his face. "Oh, sweet Lord." he softly muttered to himself as he realized who it was.
"Geeves!" the guest shouted with a wide grin on his face.
"Master Wally." Alfred replied, trying his best to be civil. "I wasn't expecting you."
"J'onn is back from his mission early so he took over the Watchtower for the rest of my shift." Wally said as he took a deep breath. "Is that ham I smell?"
"It is." Alfred answered as his brow began to sweat.
"Awesome." Wally said as he licked his lips. "Cause I am starving!"
As Alfred took a moment to dread the comment, he noticed something. "Who is that behind you, Master Wally?"
"Oh, sorry Geeves." Wally said as he slapped the butler on the shoulder. "This is my brother Barry. He was the first person to dawn the red suit, if you know what I mean."
"Hey there." Barry said with a grin. "Nice to meet you."
"Your brother?" Alfred repeated.
"Yeah, Bruce and I are friends." Barry replied. "We go back. Way back."
"Is there anyone else here with you?" Alfred then asked.
"Dad is on his way." Wally replied.
"He had a few errands to run first." Barry added.
"He'll be here in a flash." Wally then said. The two boys looked at each other and laughed before walking in and leaving their coats with Alfred.
As he watched the two men walk into the main foyer and b-line for the buffet, Alfred tossed the coats on a near by couch and bolted for the kitchen. "Call the caterer!" he called as he ran into the kitchen. "CALL THE CATERER!"
