This doesn't have a set character. Feel free to put in your own if you like. :) Oh! This is set during the 1st war.

He always said he was going to join the Order.

I guess I just never thought he'd follow through.

He promised he'd never leave.

I should have known which statement he'd choose.

I'd always wanted to help in the War.

I grew up hearing about Voldemort and I wanted to do something about it.

Thanks to Hogwarts, I now knew about the Order and all the efforts they put in.

At the same time, thanks to Hogwarts, I had met her.

I promised I'd never leave her. I wanted to live with her forever.

I should have known that wouldn't be able to happen.

It was good, for a while, until those sixth and seventh years.

Sure we knew what was going on outside, but no one had been affected.

Then my Mum went on vacation and didn't come home.

His sister (who was also in the Order) was found dead in her flat.

Reality hits hard.

Their deaths only strengthened my resolve.

It also strengthened hers.

I remember the dreary winter of our seventh year.

It had been a long week and he brought up the Order.

I remember screaming at him. I asked what in Merlin's name was he thinking.

I told him he'd end up like his sister.

I screamed back at her when she mentioned my sister.

I went just as low.

I told her that by waiting, she'd go the same way as her mum.

We didn't talk for two weeks.

Finally our time at school was over.

I became a healer. And he?

He actually joined the Order.

It worked out well at first.

We both would come home to the flat after a long day.

If I had any bumps and bruises she would patch them up.

Granted, with a lot of muttering.

But I was able to keep both my promises.

And we were happy.

Then he got sent away.

Only a couple of months he promised.

He came back six months later.

In a coffin.

Two months weeping.

A lifetime grieving.

Two promises broken, one kept.

Two promises broken because of the one kept.

Now I know,

Never make contradicting promises.
