April Phantomhive requested this quite a while ago and very badly of me I kinda forgot ^^' so it's not had a beta check since it's VERY late.
This is my first songfic and also the first time I have done something following a ShinRan shipping in a while, hope I did an alright job
Song: Where'd You Go
Artist: Fort Minor (also I had never listened to this song before I got this request ^^')
Where'd you go? I miss you so…Seems like it's been forever that you've been gone…
"I-It just hard Shinichi…" Ran said shaking into the phone in her hand, "Seeing everyone else I just want…"
"…Too be like them, normal, right?"Shinichis voice replied, from the tone it was obvious he thought the same.
"If you think so too then why are you always gone? I've been waiting Shinichi but it feels like years that you last even shown your face"
"I-I know ran but this case is…"Outside in a phone box on the far end of the street Conan looked up at the window that ran was stood by. He was using his glasses zoom to watch her. He knew he shouldn't keep this up but when he called her he didn't feel so lost and alone, that Shinichi wasn't dead and he was still needed by someone. But it was for himself, to make himself feel good. He felt stupid for putting her through this but he couldn't help it…
But what could he tell her? All he could do was try to talk about trivial things and hope her questions didn't lead to exactly what she was asking now…
"It's not simple Ran…I keep thinking I've bit off far more than I can handle but even if I want to back out…which I do at times, I cant. I wish I hadn't been a nosey idiot. I wish I hadn't played the detective in a game I shouldn't have tried to join or-"
"Shinichi…" Ran interrupted softly stopping the flow, "What have you got into…where are you?"
Where'd you go? I miss you so…Seems like it's been forever that you've been gone…
"J-Just come back home Shinichi,"
Conan paused again. He may still be here in person, the city he grew up in with the same shops he would stop for a lunch afterschool with his friends laughing all the while. But 'Shinichi' didn't go to those places anymore. And he never would again. Long gone was the egotistical confident teenaged detective everyone knew. And he tried to forget that. He tried to pretend it wasn't true and after all this he'd be exactly as it all was. But he knew it was just hopeful wishes that could never come true.
"D-don't worry about me Ran. I say that but I'm fine really."
"…you never could lie to me Shinichi," Ran frowned slightly, why wouldn't he talk to her anymore? Didn't he trust her? Or was he pushing her away on purpose? Why was he like this now? Sure at times she wished he chose a safe career but she didn't want him to change, she wanted the Shinichi that she knew back.
Where'd you go? I miss you so…Seems like it's been forever that you've been gone…
Conan sighed; he had to keep this up. He couldn't go back to Ran until he knew she'd be safe when he did, that she wouldn't become a victim in his fight. He knew he was walking a very thin line and if he wasn't careful he would lose her forever. But what right did he now have uncovering lies after these past few years were nothing but a lie?
But was it a lie? He missed being Shinichi but he knew he'd miss Conan too. Conan had a good life, a fun life, friends and no huge responsibilities…
"Shinichi?"
His eyes snapped open.
Where'd you go? I miss you so…Seems like it's been forever that you've been gone…
This was why he couldn't. Ran. She was his reason for going on. He would come home, to where he belonged, to who he belonged to,
"…Just a little longer Ran…please…I promise if im not home soon I'll tell you. Till then, please wait for me."
"…Do you promise?"
"I do"
"Alright then,"
