The link is closed off, Yugi makes sure of that, he doesn't want Yami to know what he was thinking. He sighs as he hugs his knees to his chest and buries his face in them. Who is Yugi Moto? He doesn't have very many endearing qualities, he can't stand up for himself, he always seems to need saving, and it feels like he always causes more trouble than he is worth. Yami is the person who won against Pegasus, Yami is the person who won the battle city tournament and stopped Marik from destroying everyone, and Yami is the one who stopped Dartz and the Leviathan and saved the world. The world!
So, he thinks, who is Yugi Motou again?
Yugi Motou is just an expendable host.
That is who Yugi Motou is.
He and Yami have always been curious about what would happen to Yami if Yugi were to die, would he be back in the puzzle forever forced to live an eternity in darkness until another chosen one came along and reassembled it? Would he be forced to choose another living breathing host right now? When Keith had smashed the puzzle, Yami said he'd been thrown into a realm of non-existence so quickly that he remained entirely unaware until Yugi started to reassemble the puzzle. When Yugi was unconscious from the fire, Yami could feel his soul dwindling and extinguishing until it was no bigger than a candle flame.
But, as Pegasus and Dartz have proven, as long as Yugi has the puzzle, Yami can take his body and keep it for his own. His broken wrist from the Leviathan proves that Yami can also just use it as he sees fit.
Yugi is nothing more than a host.
Yugi is expendable.
Just a host for a person who's destiny is so much greater than what Yugi could even begin to understand.
The realisation makes Yugi's heart break and before he realises, tears are falling down his cheeks and he's sobbing. His shoulders shake from the sheer force and the noise is so loud that for a brief moment, Yugi worries his grandfather may hear him.
Just a host. Expendable. Disposable.
The words kept flying around his brain, taunting him, mocking him. Yugi Mutou is worthless. He is nobody. If he were to die right now, Yami would take his place and nobody would notice. After all, he'd done it so many times before, when Yugi was unconscious, hurt, ill, and even when he just didn't feel like socialising. Yami would just slide right in and take his place, and nobody would notice. He knows from Yami's thoughts and memories that when Yami was in control while he was lost, his friends still called him Yugi. His friends. His friends who know him better than anyone. They should know him better than anyone.
Is Yami so good at pretending to be him that nobody noticed until they were told? Or is Yugi just so forgettable that he's nobody without Yami? Replaceable?
Before Yami, he was nobody, just shrimpy Yugi Mutou who got bullied constantly and couldn't stand up for himself, an easy target for anyone who tried. Who repeatedly got told he was worthless and that his existence was nothing more than a burden on everyone around him to the point that his parents couldn't even bear to be alive long enough to look after him.
Yugi freezes.
His parents.
The anniversary of their death was just two weeks ago and he missed it.
He missed it.
All because of Dartz and his stupid plan to take over the world.

Yami.
Because Yami chose to play the seal of orichalcos.
Because Yami chose not to listen to him, even though he had pleaded with him not to. Begged him. Took control of him own arm before Yami had forced him off. Yami had made him feel unimportant, like his opinion didn't matter. Worthless.
Who is Yugi Motuo?
There is only one answer.

Yugi Mutou is a nobody, he isn't important to anyone, not even the person he freed from an eternity of darkness.
