Death of a Hero

"Mario!" Peach cried out Mario's name as he rescued her from the cage Bowser put her in. Peach hugged Mario, and gave him a kiss on the nose. Together, with Luigi as well, they traveled back all the way to the Mushroom Kingdom. The next couple of days were filled with celebration for the return of the princess. All seemed well in the Mushroom Kingdom for a couple months. Until, when it was storming outside Peach's castle, there was a soft glow of candles in a window. Inside the window showed a room that was blocked from view. Inside the room Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Toadette, and others were huddled around a bed. Who was lying down on the bed? No one other than Mario himself. He was on his last breaths. That last battle with Bowser had taken a toll on Mario's health. It seemed like it was only a slight illness, but it gradually grew worse over time. The doctor had diagnosed that these were the last days for Mario. Everyone was saying their last goodbyes before Mario passed. With a last gasp of breath, the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom passed away. Tears were shed that day. At the funeral, they gave Mario a proper burial. Even the skies cried for him. After the funeral, they buried him, and went on their way. At their respective homes, they each remembered what the great hero of the Mushroom Kingdom had done for them. For Luigi, Mario had always been the best brother he could've hoped for. For Peach, she was glad that Mario was always there to save her. For Yoshi, Toad, and Toadette, they all had the same thought. Mario… was the best person they ever met. With final goodbyes from their hearts, they all slept during the raging storm. However, outside on the outskirts of the Mushroom Kingdom, a castle with fire surrounding it was rising. Inside the castle, was the Koopa King.
