BOOM!
And his heart stopped.
The loud sound was nothing to him. The thought that he was in a place with a bomb exploding was nothing to him. The small ruins of the building splashed to his skin was nothing to him.
Even the thought of leaving Alexis alone was nothing.
He wrapped his Kate tightly in his arms, his heart pounding loud.
No one can hurt her. No one can ever hurt her. She's Kate Beckett. She's mine. If anything, he's the one who allowed to hurt her.
She's gonna be fine. They're gonna be fine. They survives bombs before. They're gonna be fine.
"You guys stay here! I'll check if it's clear now." Said Esposito. Castle gave him a nod.
As the smoke clears, he heard her gasping for breath. He unwrapped her but his hands still lingering her shoulder.
He patted her back as she coughed a few times. She coughed even more when she saw a small smile on his face.
Why in the hell would he smile in this condition?
She coughed again before she asked, "Why are you smiling?"
"What? I'm not." His voice sounded so concerned. So she decided to just leave it alone, shutting her eyes tightly, maybe it was just her eyes.
After she opened her eyes, he framed her face with his hands and then kissed her forehead quickly.
Shit, she still saw the smile lingering on his face.
Do I look that bad?
She frowned, blinking her eyes one more time.
"Are you okay?" This time, he wasn't serious asking her. She knew it from his breaths. Her ability to read him was as amazing as his ability to write her. She quickly notice if something was wrong only with his hand gesture. Or his faded light of blue eyes. Or his thickened voice. Or...his unstable breathe.
She nodded and closed her eyes again. "I was so scared that you might hurt, but other than that..." She forgot about the whole Castle-smiling-thing. This is Castle's safety she was talking about. She really did scared.
She took a deep breath and opened her eyes and found Castle at his weirdest face.
He's trying not to laugh.
"God, Castle, what's so funny?" She gave up on her curiosity.
"Nothing."
She threw a look on him.
"Nothing, really."
She pinched his nose spontaneously, a thing she didn't do for a long time.
"APPLES! God, woman! Are you trying to kill me?" He gasped in pain.
"Then tell me what's so funny!" She pinched it one more time.
"APPLES! APPLES! It's just this is the first failed-death-call we faced as a couple and I'm so excited, nothing more!"
