A/N: You all know why I'm writing this weird drabble. I was going to make it a mini one-paged comic, but I decided that naww, I probably wouldn't draw it right, so there's this instead. XD

Kurt sends his best friend a sly smile. "Love could be just around the corner," he tells her.

But as he says this, none other than Dave Karofsky shows his face, popping up and walking by his and Mercedes's lunch table at precisely this moment.

Kurt's smile begins to fade slightly, unsure of what to think. Time seems to slow. Mercedes angles her head to peer over her shoulder at what Kurt is suddenly staring at.

And then Karofsky does the unthinkable.

"'S up, homo?" the bully remarks lightly, not a hint of conviction in his tone despite the terminology used. And at the end of this small greeting, Kurt's stomach lurches with a strange feeling as the jock gives him a wink and an odd smile, something Kurt's never seen before.

The smile returns lazily to his lips as Karofsky disappears out of sight.

Kurt blinks, his face unreadable.

Mercedes peers at him questioningly. "Um… Kurt? What the hell was that?"

The boy shakes his head with vigor. "I have no idea." He pauses, thinking, while a small blush forms on his face. The only person who knows about his stolen first kiss (with a boy, anyhow) is Blaine. Kurt stares at the table and his own folded hands while he murmurs thoughtfully, "He could have been poking fun at my sexuality, or…"

"Oh no, white boy, don't you dare say the f-l-i-r-t-i-n-g word!" she spells out with her sassy-black-girl voice, her head bobbing slightly. "I know that's not right! But damn," she adds, "That sure was bizarre."

"Yeah…" Kurt admits distantly, his mind still racing a little. "Yeah, it was."

Mercedes brushes it off. "Well anyway, now that that's over, are you going to help me get my tater tots back?"

But Kurt isn't listening to her. I don't know what the hell that was, he agrees, But I'm sure going to find out. And… I think, despite what it could have been – which is an insult – I kind of… liked it.

And so while Mercedes raises a large pad of paper with 'Tots' scrawled on the front in large, purple letters to get everybody chanting, Kurt slips away into the crowd in the direction of where his bully escaped to.

He spies Karofsky in the hallway, and watches the jock round a corner and disappear again. Kurt attempts to follow, but the flooding of students is too great. He's lost to the madness, and eventually gives up his pursuit. He shrugs and returns to the lunchroom, not sure if he'll ever get the answer.

Not like it matters. It was just a dumb, random wink.
