Okay, so a new Stark OC storyline for you all. This time twins who are the trueborn children of Brandon Stark and Barbrey Ryswell, later, Dustin. The first is Torrhen, who is ruthless to his enemies but is kind-hearted to his family and people he loves. He despises unnecessary cruelty and wants to be a good ruler. Jocelyn Stark is kind and caring, but she's cunning and reads people well and deceives everyone by playing the innocent girl act. a little background to the story: Barbrey Ryswell and Brandon Stark married in secret which was approved by her father. Brandon was about to tell his father when his sister was "kidnapped" by Rhaegar Targaryen. Brandon and Rickard Stark are eventually killed and Barbrey gave birth to twins, Torrhen and Jocelyn but was advised by her father to keep them a secret due to Ned Stark marrying Catelyn Tully. If they were revealed it could mean that they would die, though it most likely wouldn't happen. However knowing Hoster he wouldn't let this slight on his house go when Brandon was betrothed to Catelyn. Thus the children were hidden throughout their lives. They both know they are Starks but not bastards. Because of her children, Barbrey couldn't marry Willam Dustin. So when he died Barrowton was left without a lord. However Willam's sister was married to Rickard Ryswell, second son of Rodrick Ryswell. She's an OC so that the Dustins are included in the allies of the new Starks. And both of them are about 20 by the time this story starts.
This was not what Barbrey Ryswell was expecting but it happened. Robb Stark was killed at the Twins at the hands of Walder Frey and Roose Bolton. It was just a few weeks ago. While she had no love for Ned Stark or his son, she felt terrible of their deaths. But that was mainly due to her two children and the rightful heirs to House Stark, Torrhen and Jocelyn. Both of them were born of a marriage between her and Brandon Stark, a secret one at that. Brandon had not wanted to marry Catelyn Tully, but he did want her. Once they were married and he consummated the marriage he was about to tell his father and Hoster Tully. However, that's when he heard that his sister was kidnapped and headed to King's Landing. And everyone knows what happened after that. But unbeknownst to others Barbrey gave birth to twins, a boy named Torrhen and a girl named Jocelyn. She was going to reveal them to Ned Stark but he had already married Catelyn Tully and sired a son on his wedding night. Barb's father eventually found out and advised her to keep the children a secret as they would be a threat to Ned's children's claim. Barbrey didn't like it but she obeyed her father and kept them hidden throughout the years. Both children were taught the ways of the North, the histories of their houses. Both of them knew they came from the Starks, but they didn't know until later on when they were older that they were the true heirs to Winterfell, but that they had to keep it a secret. If they tried to take it then the Tullys and the Arryns wouldn't be too pleased. It was all a whole political nonsense to Barbrey, her children should have inherited Winterfell.
Torrhen would have proven himself a great lord and a great leader. He had the right temperament but also the cunning and ruthlessness of the old Starks. He would never harm his own blood though, he surprisingly was happy that a Stark was ruling Winterfell. He had wanted to go south and fight with the Young Wolf but his mother forbade him to do so. This helped in some way as Torrhen staying here helped her to deal with a certain problem in the North.
Jocelyn was the perfect lady. Beautiful and smart. But while she was like that deep down, in front of strangers, she acted like the stupid naïve girl that loved the stories of knights and chivalry. All the people who met her fell for her act. But some others not so much. Herself and Torrhen didn't fall for it. Neither did her father. However, Jocelyn also had a good amount of cunning. She could very well manipulate others into doing her bidding. Jocelyn learned that from her. Her thoughts were interrupted by the knock on her door.
"Come in." She said. The door opened to reveal her children. "My dears. Please sit." She gestured to the chair. They both sat down. "So, I assume you've all heard what happened at the Twins?"
"You mean the slaughterhouse they're calling the Red Wedding? Yeah the whole country knows about this whole thing." Torrhen said.
"Yes, and you've heard about what Lord Bolton has been offered?"
"He gets to be Warden of the North?" Jocelyn said with venom in her voice.
"Yes, the North won't declare for him aside for the Whitehills. Your grandfather and uncle Rickard plan on declaring for him." This took both of them by surprise.
"What?!" They both declared.
"How could grandfather do this?" Torrhen said.
"This is a betrayal. You cannot allow this." Jocelyn said.
"Shh." Barbrey said. "Quiet. You don't know what we have planned." She told them. "I plan on giving you back your birthright." She said to Torrhen.
"Wait, what?" Torrhen asked confused.
"Look, I understand that this isn't what you expected, but this gives us an opportunity to avenge your family and finally take back what is ours. I've waited over twenty years for this ever since you both were born. Granted, I didn't want this to happen this way, but we are left with no choice. Bolton will never be able to hold the North, even with the backing of Tywin Lannister. Everyone may fear him, but the North remembers, and that memory goes back years. We're getting it back, but we have to play it as if we are submitting."
"Do we even have any support? Will the lords of the North support Torrhen?" Jocelyn asked.
"Difficult to say. But you have the support of Houses Ryswell and Dustin. Your grandfather and your uncles. I've been keeping in contact with Lord Wyman, he hasn't said anything yet, but I doubt he will back the Boltons, especially after what happened with his son Wendel. We may get the Umbers, but with the Greatjon in prison it seems unlikely we'll get all of them. The Karstarks may not want to after what happened with Rickard Karstark, but they could be swayed from the Boltons. The others, will be difficult. You will have to prove yourself my son." She said to Torrhen before turning to Jocelyn. "And you too my dear. You both will have to prove yourselves. You are the true Starks. Winterfell will be yours. Do you hear me?" They both nodded. "Good. Now the guests. How are they doing?" Torrhen smiled at that.
"Theon's doing well in his rooms he's getting his meals, can't really complain. Reek on the other hand, could use a bit more discipline. He needs to be more silent." He said. Barbrey smiled.
"Well, as long as you reign him in, like you've been doing the past few months, he should be more compliant." Torrhen smiled wickedly at that.
"I know just the trick mother." Torrhen said.
"Serves him right. For killing his brother." Jocelyn said. "We should have flayed him like he did to all those women. Ramsay doesn't deserve to live."
"But he's no longer Ramsay Snow. He's Reek now, I named him after that idiot he had as a friend." Torrhen said.
They were referring to Roose's bastard who they had captive for several months following the Sack of Winterfell. A day that Barbrey wasn't sure to be proud of or sad for. Theon Greyjoy had turned his back on the Starks and sided with his stupid father Balon Greyjoy. Balon ordered the invasion of the North, but Barbrey knew from the first Greyjoy Rebellion that the Ironborn don't do well in the mainland. But somehow, Theon managed to get into Winterfell and capture the two Stark boys, Bran and Rickon. But then he killed them, to supposedly break Robb Stark, but then Roose sent Ramsay with about three hundred men to retake Winterfell. This was the perfect opportunity to kill the bastard. So she sent Torrhen with about eight hundred men, all on horseback. It was a fortnight before Torrhen came back with the news that Ramsay had sacked Winterfell when the Ironborn surrendered Theon. The Ironborn with Theon were also killed. Torrhen decided to run them through down to the last man, which was Ramsay. Torrhen had taken both Theon and Ramsey as prisoners, but for Torrhen he was having a bit of "fun" with Ramsay when he was held here. Barbrey had not seen him since Torrhen brought him here, but from what she's heard, Ramsay was not doing well which didn't bother her. of course, no one knew he was alive. They told Roose that Ramsay had died in the skirmish to retake Winterfell. Roose seemed to believe it, though for how long, they weren't sure.
"In any case, Roose is on his way North. There's still the Ironborn at Moat Cailan and the Stony Shore. He wants us to deal with them." She told her children.
"So what? We're his lap dogs?" Jocelyn asked sarcastically.
"For now." Barbrey said. "In the meantime, there is news from King's Landing as well. Your uncle has been avenged my dears." She said with sweet venom. Her children looked up at her in surprise. "King Joffrey is no more. He was poisoned at his own wedding. They say his uncle Lord Tyrion did it."
"Ha!" Torrhen exclaimed. "Well, whomever did that I say well done. That little bastard's been asking it for years."
"Good riddance. I wish we could have been there to see his mother realize his life was over." Jocelyn added.
"This gives us even more ample time to get back Winterfell. The Lannisters will be too distracted to help Bolton and we need them distracted so that when we strike, they won't know what to do." Barbrey replied. "We will take back what is ours. And the lions will see that no one takes away from the wolves. The wolves will fight back harder and fiercer."
"Winter is Coming." Both of them said.
"Winter is Coming, for House Lannister." Barbrey finished. Both Torrhen and Jocelyn left to do their respective missions. Torrhen preparing to leave with Theon to liberate Moat Cailan and the Stony Shore and Torrhen's Square and Jocelyn would be preparing for their guests. Unbeknownst to them Barbrey also had a letter that was sealed for her. She knew who it was from. He had contacted her after the war had started and confirmed her suspicions that others outside the North knew about her children. She would have to be careful with this person. He said he intended good will for her family but she knew he was not to be trusted, the Lannisters, Baratheons, Tullys and Starks suffered because of his actions all the while his little love stood safely tucked into the Vale. She opened the letter to read it again.
I'll get her to your son eventually. The North will be theirs. First I must tie up some loose ends.
