Cassie's breathing was hard and labored as she ran along side Thom. She felt her feet moving faster than she thought they were. Was she scared? Is this what fear felt like? This and may other thoughts ran through her mind as she passed through the halls. How did this happen? Cassie began to contemplate continuing her trek to a safe location. Cassie was honestly just relaxing and having dinner with Thom but then suddenly a wall had exploded and Brainac had evacuated everyone out of the cafeteria telling them that the Fatal Five were here for them. So that was how she got here.
"Stop!" Thom suddenly shouted holding a hand in front of Cassie stopping her from running.
Cassie moved his arm away as she looked in front of them. It was her room. "Thom this is my room why would we-"
"Just trust me okay? Go grab your most important possessions and then meet me out here again, okay?" Thom grasped her shoulders making her look him the eyes.
"O-Okay." Cassie reluctantly agreed quickly heading to the door of her room.
Stepping inside Cassie felt a sense of peace. Her room was still the same. No damage front the recent attack with everything just as she had left it. Cassie quickly shook away her thoughts. She didn't have time to reflect on the way her room looked right now. Cassie stretched out her right hand and used her powers. She carefully manipulated the air around a photo of her and Thom together and had it fly into her arms. She did the same with the rest of her most prized possessions which consisted of the photo, her Legion ring, and a communicator. She sighed looking one last time around her room before shutting the door knowing she might not see it again.
Standing outside it did not take long for Thom to come out of his own room with a small bag strapped across his back. Cassie nervously glanced behind them when she heard a large explosion and screams of panic coming closer.
"Come on!" Thom grabbed Cassie's hand and began to run with her again.
Cassie's curiously looked at her boyfriend as they ran. "Thom! Where are we going?!"
"Don't worry! We're going somewhere safe." Thom replied.
He led her to a room with a strange spherical object in the center of the room. There was a nearby control panel as Thom let go of Cassie's hand and ran up to the control panel before he began to type on the keyboard on the panel and speak as he went. "Cass, get in."
"What?" Cassie asked not sure what he was trying to tell her. Her eyes suddenly darted to the sphere again as a circular entrance opened in it.
"Get in." Thom told her calmly.
Cassie nervously stepped into the strange device and sat down inside. Not entirely sure what it was and why Thom knew about it. "What is this thing?"
"It's a time machine." Thom answered her as he continued to type on the panel. "Brainiac made this prototype a while ago and showed me."
"Prototype?! You mean this hasn't been tested?!" Cassie shouted panicked at this new information. "This isn't safe!"
"Neither is staying here. You and I both know the Fatal Five would do anything to get rid of the Legion." Thom finally finished and sat down next to Cassie inside.
Cassie nervously grabbed Thom's arm. "Thom...I'm scared."
Thom held her hand with his and smiled looking at her. "It's okay. Calm down everything will be fine."
Cassie felt her tears begin to flow down her cheeks. "But what if something happens? To you? Or to me? Even the Legion?"
Thom gently brought his hand up to one of her cheeks and put his forehead to hers. "If that happens. I need to say this now before it does. Cassie, I love you and I would do anything for you."
"Alright then. Promise me this." Cassie began as she smiled at him.
"Anything."
"To the stars and back." Cassie told him and hoped he would repeat it.
"To the stars and back, Cassie. I promise." Thom told her before he lifted her chin. Bringing his face closer to hers for a kiss.
Before their lips could touch Cassie suddenly felt an empty space. She gasped and opened her eyes seeing Thom being grabbed by a green source of energy.
"How quaint. Two Legionnaires trying to escape." The female voice was full of venom like a snake.
Cassie turned her head to the entrance of the room and saw the Emrald Empress make her entrance. With her fellow villains by her side. Cassie saw Thom struggling in the green energy coming from the Emrald Empresses strange green eye.
"Thom!" Cassie called ready to sprint out of the time machine to help him.
"No! Don't come any closer!" Thom quickly shouted. His hands suddenly beginning to glow a blue hue.
Cassie suddenly felt the glass of the sphere in front of her hands as the door had shut on her. "No! No! Don't shut you stupid thing! Thom! Open the door!"
Thom smiled sadly as gripped his hand into a fist crushing the nearby control panel. "Sorry Cassie. To the stars and back, okay?"
"NO!" Came the final shout from Cassie as she suddenly felt a strong impact against her head.
The world went completely black.
