Unimpressed

"It's just...you're not what we were expecting."

He was almost exactly what she had been expecting. Young, younger than she...or younger than she was at the height of the rule of her family at any rate. Holding Peter's sword with skill and resolve, but not much practical experience; green. He didn't even seem to realize Peter was effectively inside his guard and could smack the sword out of the boy's hand with the rock he was holding.

His eyes flicked over to her and she recognized the look immediately. She'd seen it in every set of eyes when she sank into her throne. She'd seen it in countless covert and brazen glances from males in the court. She'd seen it on masculine faces asking, imploring for a token of her favor. She'd seen it in their faces after they toppled an opponent or shown their first class prowess in a particular skill and gazed at her for approval. She'd seen it while their words flowed in poetry, while their knees bent in honor, while they offered delicacies, songs, gems, and marvelously wrought works of beauty while they asked for her hand.

She saw that he thought he had a chance.

She glanced to the side with a rather un-queenly smirk. It was nice to be noticed, but it was hardly anything new. She looked back at him. He seemed like a very nice boy, full of passion, cautious dignity, and determination to regain his kingdom. She was quite willing, and even happy, to help with that. It was their purpose in being here; and as soon as they helped him into his place they could let go of his hands and let him learn to walk on his own feet. She would even enjoy being friends with him, a hail back to all the calls of state during her reign.

As a suitor though, he wasn't anything she hadn't seen, and turned down, before.

A/N: Because considering that Susan was regarded as the catch of the entire non-circular world back on her first Narnia jaunt and she had EVERY king, emperor, and heir apparent who wasn't related to her or already attached begging for her to take notice, I think it would take quite a bit to impress her, and I don't really think a struggling prince would have been anything out of the ordinary.
