Coraline slid a note of warning under the coach. Silent tears slid down her cheeks, her life was good now, but she had to move, her mother had gotten a new opportunity to write for Garden's Now and it was to good to pass up. Even though she destroyed the key, Coraline HAD to make sure no one else would go through the door into the other world. Especially not a child, so she was leaving a warning for the next family that moved in.
"Bye house," she whispered, "bye mom!" she yelled tauntingly at the door, even though she knew no one could hear her. "Nellie! Where the frig are you?" Nellie's mom called.
"Here, mom!" Nellie had just moved into a new house, she was scared as hell, but her mom, as nice as she was, couldn't tell because her fathers medical bills were coming in and she was stressed. She still had to pay for a 11000$ dollar operation that resulted in his death.
"Sweetie, do you have any extra cash? I'm out and we need some milk!" Nellie rolled her eyes, she knew her mother hadn't run out. She just didn't have any money left.
"Yeah, here," she said giving her the only babysitting money she had left.
Sighing, Nellie threw herself on the coach. Reaching for her book, she noticed a piece of paper sticking out of the coach. Finally, maybe something interesting would happen! Reading through the note, Nellie was horrified. She knew the story wasn't true but it still scared the wits out of her. She tried to be realistic. How true could a story about a doll that looked exactly like its owner, a door that led to what seems like a perfect world until your "other mom" tried to sew buttons on your eyes? It was impossible, but it was still the only interesting thing that had happened since she moved, so she decided to go see whether the door was really there.
Pushing some boxes aside, Nellie made her way towards the wall where the supposed door was. She was both scared and surprised to see that the door really was there. In the note, a girl named Coraline had told her that the door was locked, and the key destroyed, but in the small door in front of her, a key was in the lock, and the door was open.
Nellie pulled the small door open and took the key out. This must not be the door, Coraline had said it would look like bricks before it opened, this wasn't bricks, it was wallpaper, and on the wallpaper were small black polka dots. No, they weren't polka dots they were small, black buttons! Before Nellie could realize what was happening, the door rattled.
"Nellie!" her mom called. Phew, her mom was home. Nellie thought she went out for some milk...
"Nellie!" her mom called again. Nellie got up.
"Yes?" she called. Then she realized that the voice was coming from the door, and someone was trying to break into her house.
