NALU WEEK-STORY TWO

PECKING BIRD

Lucy sat down, on the green grass, closed her eyes, and tilted her head upwards, to the sun. The warm breeze blew through her hair, relaxing everything around her.

"Hi." She said, and smiled. "I missed you. I am missing you." She said, and continued smiling. "You know it's been...exactly a year since we last saw each other, right?" He didn't answer, but she knew what he was thinking.

Yes.

Yes it had been. Way too long. "You can answer me." She said, and frowned. "I guess you're not then. Fine."

Lucy opened her eyes again, and took the basket she had bought with her, out of it, she took a notepad and pen. She opened it, and started writing, before she sighed.

"You are way too silent. It's worrying me." She said to the pink headed man. Still no answer. She rolled her eyes. "You know it hasn't been the same without you? All of us, we are missing you. When are you coming back? No...it's okay, you don't have to answer that." She said. She knew he was thankful, despite his silence.

A bird landed on the ground next to her. She looked over at him, and smiled. The bird cocked his head, at her, before hopping around, occasionly pecking the ground. It's feathers were blue. And tidy. And perfect. A perfect tidy blue bird.

"Look. Isn't it lovely?" Lucy said to Natsu. She concentrated on the tweeting bird. It pecked the ground, non-stop, incecently trying to find the mearest sign of crumbs, amongst the green grass and cobble. Lucy laughed. "Why here of all places silly bird?" She whispered, before slowly going to her basket, and taking out a biscuit she had bought with her, in case she was hungry. Or maybe Natsu, after all, she didn't know how he was looking after himself.

"Lucy."

Lucy's eyes opened wide, before tearing up, and she tilted her head downwards. She missed the way his voice called her. She looked up at him, and sighed, before reaching into her basket one last time, pulling out a bouquet of yellow daffodils.

"Natsu..." she whispered, and placed them at the foot of what was the closest thing to him. A white marble slab of stone, with the words 'Natsu Dragneel, beloved friend, and comerade. May the flame he carry burn eternaly' engraved into it. Lucy smiled, running her hand along the words, before tears formed. She hung her head, and cried.

The bird pecked at the biscuit, it was too big for his little throat. He found it tiring, constanly pecking. His instincts: take the biscuit with him. He opened his beek wide, and held it in his beek, before taking off. Unfortunately, the biscuit dropped. Ah well, it wasn't like the bird was starving anyway. The biscuit fell on the ground, unoticed by mother nature, who was concentrating on the salty water of Lucy's tears, soaking them up.

"Honestly..." someone sighed, wishing he could place his hand on her shoulder
