All the poison in the world couldn't amount to Mugi-chan's pain.
This, Bentham knew.
So Bentham stayed quiet when Luffy's tear-stained voice rang out the Den Den Mushi, and he stayed quiet when Luffy lamented the fact that Bentham had saved him far too many times.
But he just could not keep quiet when Luffy told him that they were going ahead.
(He couldn't tell Mugi-chan that his sacrifice was because Luffy was his saviour.)
And so he cried a 'thank you' and so he accepted his fate, dancing the Okama way, proudly smiling and with no regrets.
(Because all the poison in the world, couldn't amount to Mugi-chan's pain.)
