Hello, Meadowlark here. A good friend of mine has been helping me get back into the swing of Cats fiction. She gave me a couple of prompts recently and this is what came of one of them (the prompt will be included at the bottom if you want to give it a try.)
Disclaimer: If they were mine I would be publishing books and putitng on more shows.
Bombalurina lay on her back on the warm rubber of the tire. Her bright green eyes were closed as she enjoyed the sun's rays on her creamy white belly. She purred and stretched, her gaze still hidden behind her lids. One emerald eye opened to stare up at her younger sister, her full lips frowning. "You're in my sun."
The gold queen standing over her arched an eyebrow as she rested her paws on her shapely hips. "I don't see your name on it."
The red beauty's lips curved upward as she closed her eyes again. "I labeled it when I lay down. You just can't see it 'cause it's too bright."
"You labeled the sun." Demeter's tone was unimpressed.
Both eyes opened this time. "You've been spending too much time with Munkustrap."
"So what if I have?"
"Well for one thing he's got a stick so far up his—" The scarlet queen was cut off by a ringing bell and a muttered, unqueenlike comment. Rolling onto her stomach Bomba smirked down at her youngest sister. "Hey, Jemi, what's got your tail in a twist?"
The small queen leaped up next to her elder sisters, grimacing at the ringing sound that accompanied her movement. She pawed at her new collar. A simple brown leather affair with a small brassy bell attached to it. "I brought my pets one too many birds."
The other two queens looked at her in sympathy, Demeter speaking. "Well, they should take it off eventually and I'm sure you can figure out how to dampen it."
Bomba stretched, offering her own advice. "Fastest way to get them to take it off is to run around the house at full tilt in the middle of the night. Best if you can do it in their bedrooms. They'll take it off in less than a week."
Demeter arched one eyebrow looking between her two scarlet-furred sisters. "Speaking from experience, Bomba?"
The eldest of the queens gave a purring laugh. "Well, I didn't bring them sparrows if that's what you mean."
"What did you bring them?"
"Goldfish and canaries."
"Goldfish and….you brought them their pets?" Demeter's jaw dropped. "Bomba you're lucky you didn't end up out in the cold."
She shrugged. "I'm not that stupid. I only brought a couple. It was those dumb fish. And that one bird. The parrot they got after that was too big."
Jemima couldn't resist a soft giggle. "At least my humans don't want other animals in the house."
"Yeah, count yourself lucky, Jem. Mine have that idiot parrot and a pollicle that's no bigger than I am."
Demeter laughed at that. "You mean that peke they got last year? I thought you said you were going to smother that thing."
"And I would too…but the tomkit likes it." Bomba stretched one more time smoothing her fur down as she rose. "Well, gals, I've got places to be. Good seeing you both." Before either of her sisters could make a comment about her affection for the little human tom the red queen sashayed away.
Demeter and Jemima exchanged meaningful looks before dissolving into giggles.
The prompt:
Prompt Word: Repartee
Length: 750 words
Characters: Demeter, Bombalurina, Jemima
Must include: A Bell
(the characters originally included Grizabella, but considering my initial draft was written at 2-3 am that wasn't happening. If you want a challenge try all four in the same fic.)
