Puck sat several seats away from her this year in Glee Club. After the summer they had, he knew she wouldn't want him around her anymore. But the four seats between them couldn't stop him from glancing her way every so often. She looked upset, alone. Maybe she missed Puck, maybe their baby girl. Or maybe both. Or maybe neither.
Either way, it was possible that he would never find out. She had completely closed herself off from him and there was no way possible he could nuzzle his way back in. Unless…
One day, Quinn had a fight with her mother about the baby and how Quinn had been acting strange and distant ever since she gave her up. Her mother should've known this was a touchy subject for her, but she started the conversation anyway. She was probably too drunk to think properly.
Quinn found herself in the schoolyard that night. She hid from the rain underneath a tree close to the front doors. On his way home from work that night, Puck saw Quinn crying under the tree. She looked cold and scared and exhausted and, of course, upset. He pulled into the parking lot and turned off his truck.
"Quinn?" he called her name.
She didn't answer.
"Quinn, answer me. What are you doing out here! It's late and it's storming. You're crazy!"
"Leave me alone, Noah," she finally replied.
"I'm not going to leave you out here to freeze."
"I said leave me alone!"
"Quinn…"
"Noah. I mean it. I'll be fine. Just leave." Her voice cracked. Tears began streaming down her cheeks, a slight bit of mascara ran down her face.
"You clearly won't be fine." He brushed a tear from her cheek using his thumb.
She didn't reply. She just cried.
"What's the matter?"
"I just miss her, Puck. A lot."
"I do too, Quinn. You know I wanted to keep her."
"I screwed everything up. I'm so stupid."
"You're not stupid. Don't be ridiculous. You did what you thought was best. You knew what was best for her. You're her mother, you knew…"
"What if I was wrong? I'm not her mother anymore. Maybe the instinct just wasn't there."
"You'll always be her mother Quinn. Always."
"I want to see her every day. I want to kiss her when she falls off her bike, tuck her in a night. I want to comfort her when some stupid boy dumps her and I want to see her get married. I made a mistake, Noah. I know I made a mistake."
"You didn't make a mistake. You'll realize you made the right decision in the long run. For now, you'll just have to think about that. Think about the future. And you'll always miss her, I know that, but maybe missing her is a good thing."
"How?"
"Well, at least you didn't forget her…"
Quinn cried into Pucks arms a while, then got up and let him give her a ride back to her house.
"Thanks, Noah."
"Anytime, babe." He winked.
Quinn laughed, rolled her eyes and walked down the path to her house.
Yeah, maybe she made a mistake, but maybe she could have it all again with the boy she made that mistake with.
