Guide you on

Knives watches Vash's journey, his "pilgrimage," off and on – most of the time, there are more important things to plan and consider and keep an eye on. And aside from that, he's planned out Vash's journey more or less himself, has enough control over it not to worry about the outcome. Legato's seeing to that.

And, in addition to him, there is the "guide" he's sent out to his brother's side – and it's brilliant, really, the holy man who is also a murderer.

Almost amusing, this man's ridiculous struggle. He is the perfect example – a nice way to make his brother start seeing clearer, start thinking.

Knives leans against the railing of the Ark, watches and waits for the next confrontation to play itself out, waits for his brother to finally wake up.

"Isn't it funny, Vash? On and on you search for salvation... and now, you're traveling with a priest! And yet, he is the last person who could grant you what you seek."

He shakes his head in a show of mocking disappointment.

"You have to appreciate the irony at least. You travel on in circles amidst these bugs and all the time, all the answers are right in front of you. It's a pity, really... my own brother enchanted by the very devils I sought to protect him from."

He feels the anger swell again, the utter disgust, but he knows he can control it, use it. Not yet, though. He will watch and he will wait. Treading silently in the shadows until their day comes.

He lets his breath rush out, his smile broadening until his teeth show. He stares at the horizon, not seeing it at all.

"Guide him on, my little priest... it's a long, slow crawl from heaven to hell!"
