Thank you to my beta reader; your help is greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that this is years after Trials of Apollo, and hopefully remain canon.
The Oath of the Night
Chapter One
"We stand here today for the punishment of Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon and Sally Jackson," Zeus said. The Ruler of Olympus looked at the rest of the Olympians, as if daring them to protest. They either looked down or stared ahead - it was a serious matter.
Percy felt despair weigh in his chest but he didn't say anything. There was no use; not without the evidence planted. He was being punished for a crime he didn't commit. It reminded him of the time Zeus accused him of stealing the Lightning Bolt, but this time he wasn't given a chance to prove being innocent.
"We have agreed, upon the council, that you will be sent to Tartarus. You will roam through the land, tired but unable to rest. You will see others in pain but be unable to help."
"You can't," Percy whispered. The memories of Tartarus back when he was seventeen still left a scar.
"Father," Athena said, a flash of sympathy appearing across her face. "Perhaps we should choose a different punishment. The crime that Perseus committed is a serious offence, yet Tartarus is where the most wicked ones are sent."
"And what is your definition of 'wicked'?" Artemis demanded. She looked angry, which was a bit of a startle because she usually kept herself under control. "The innocent being slaughtered does not show any sign of mercy or remorse. The rest of my Hunters are still coping. Seeing their fellow sisters fall is -"
"I don't think Percy did it," Apollo said. "He has helped save -"
"I don't think you're in the position to speak," Artemis cut in, giving her brother a glare. Ever since the incident with Apollo turning into a mortal as punishment, the sun god has been a lot more quiet and trying to win Zeus' trust. It seemed like Zeus could hold a long grudge though; after all, they live for a long time.
Zeus stood up from his throne, causing everyone to go quiet. "We have already discussed this. Perseus, do you have anything to say?"
Percy went up from his kneeling position. His legs cramped from staying there so long, but he managed not to fall. "I will never betray any of you. All I want is to be normal. I swear on the River's Styx that I didn't kill any of the Hunters." On cue, thunder rumbled.
Hades looked stonily at Percy. "You swear? I'm afraid that there are consequences for lying."
Poseidon frowned, staring at his son sadly. "Perseus, don't make it any worse."
"You can't run from evidence, kid," Ares said. "The proof is our eyes."
"I didn't!" The son of Poseidon wasn't sure how long he could keep protesting, especially when he couldn't prove anything, but suddenly there was a flash of light and he went unconscious.
